Superman is a very interesting and sometimes polarizing subject for the comic book community. He's undoubtedly the reason that we're all here; but over time his popularity has been on the decline for younger audiences and overall readership. Different writers have tried different ploys and plots to make compelling interesting stories with ranging degrees of success.
One writer who has written numerous stories on the Man of Steel with lots of success is Dan Jurgens! Well Mr. Jurgens is back to take on Superman in the main DC universe! However, he will not be taking on the New 52 Superman. Instead his title will focus on the classic pre-flashpoint Superman, that a large contingency of fans have been begging for to come back.
Mr. Jurgens spoke with Newsarama about tackling his old stomping grounds in a entirely new setting and how that will effect Superman, Lois and their son Jon! Jurgens sum's up the premise of his new book with this, "Superman, Lois and Jon are now in the current DCU. They've been here for a while now, and this series is really built around their effort to survive in this strange new universe. It's certainly not the same as what they lost, and it's also complicated by the fact that there are other versions of themselves here."
Seems like a interesting premise that can lead to some interesting stories and conflicts. Jurgens went on to talk about why he thinks readers will find this take compelling and enjoyable for more readers, especially the one's that long for the days of the "old" Superman, "I think this Superman will appeal to readers because he has a rich and deep history. One of the things readers have wrestled with, in terms of the New 52, is that, by starting five years into the universe, they often felt as if the characters lacked context."
