Did Thor ask to be part of The Avengers rather than be asked by Agent Coulson?

All the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe up until Thor have been asked to be a member of S.H.I.E.L.D or The Avenger Initiative by either Agent Coulson or Nick Fury, but after watching a scene in Thor, it sounds like he is asking instead of Agent Coulson.

It all started with Iron Man, with a mysterious agent called Agent Coulson trying to debrief Tony Stark about his incident, then a cameo after the credits from Nick Fury that he wants to talk to him about The Avenger Initiative. Finally in Iron Man 2, he becomes a consultant, so now he is part of the team alongside Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Black Widow and Hawkeye. There are still three character to join, Hulk, Thor, Captain America.

We all know that at the end of Captain America he gets debriefed by Nick Fury as shown by the leaked photos a few weeks ago, so thats him in the team. Still Hulk and Thor left.

Obviously in The Incredible Hulk, Bruce Banner doesn't even get approached by Nick Fury or Agent Coulson because he is on the run and S.H.I.E.L.D are helping the U.S Army and General Ross to find him. But at the end, Tony Stark as a consultant approaches General Ross about an unusual problem (Hulk) and that he is putting a team together. So it looks like Hulk will be the villain at the beginning of The Avengers, then after getting defeated, he gets asked to join the team to fight a bigger threat (please be skrulls!!!).

But in Thor it's a different story, in the scene were Thor defeats The Destroyer and Agent Coulson approaches him and says "Donald, I don't think you've been completely honest with me", Thor says "You and I, we fight for the same cause, the protection of this world (Skrulls lead up?), from this day forward you can count me as your ally if you return the items you have taken from Jane". Then when Thor flies up in the air with Jane, Coulson shouts "Wait, I need to debrief you" (Like Coulson trying to debrief Stark).

I like the way the film handled Thor joining the team rather than Coulson asking him because that could be silly, but instead Thor says he will fight for the safety of this world because of Loki and the Destroyer incident. In The Avengers, Coulson will probably need him because of Loki (again) and this bigger threat (I still think it should be the Skrulls).

I agree with you speno94. Thor did seem to offer up his services to Coulson. I saw an article on here ago a few days ago. One of the spoilers leaked in the article said that the leadership of the team would be split mosttly between Iron Man, Thor, And Nick Fury. And now after seeing Thor, i believe that article alittle bit more. Fury is the handler. Iron Man is a field lear and his suit probably makes him good for relaying intel. Thor is also a field leader i guess. Though Cap really should lead the team.

Um, wrong . When you join the Avengers Nick Fury asks you. And as of Thor there is no Avengers to join.

@ironpool007.

i really hope that is false and Cap is the leader as he always has been. i can see Thor, Stark and Fury leading the team while Cap is acclimating himself to the present day, but at the end of the movie, that had better be where Cap steps up as the man and in strong voice shouts out "Avengers Assemble"

I've been having some thoughts about how this is going to go down with 1 movie left to go before ''The Avengers''.. There's a few thing's that haven't "really'' been addressed.. If the Avengers are going to be true to the original story (semi-doubtful) then where's Antman and Wasp? Also will the Captain America movie be half period piece half present day movie? And will it cover his being frozen and then being defrosted? or will his defrosting be done in The Avengers movie? IMO for the sake of not having a 3hr Capt. America and a 3hr Avengers movie they better get Cap frozen, defrosted and joining the Avengers in the Capt. America movie.. and then have somekind of end credit Hulk scene... The problem I have with this whole thing is that there isn't a sequel of any movie just before the Avengers movie release in 2012... to me it would make more sense to have a sequel of either Capt America 2, Iron Man 3 or Thor 2 to be released prior to the Avengers movie release.. I really had hoped that Thor and Ironman would've met up in Thors' movie to help bridge the gap to the Avengers' movie and not waste time on introductions. I felt that the team should be half complete by the time the Capt America Movie is out... I'm wondering also will the movie start out in retrospect? Are all the footage seen in the trailer scenes of Capt telling his story? someone else telling his story..... and then they go back to the present and then get into him joining the Avengers? There was a report out that implied Capt having a new suit in the Avengers....

I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, but I think a great idea for the villains in the Avengers 2 would be the Masters of Evil. Between Avengers 1 and 2 they can introduce each of them individually as the villains of the solo movies' sequels, like IM3, Thor 2, and CA2, and using after-credits scenes they can show them teaming up similar to what they're doing now with the set up for the Avengers. Just a thought.

@ That point Thor has no clue what the avenger initiative is..he was simply offering his alliance to Coulson..which later he will be debriefed and introduced to the situation about the avengers

also Tony is the only one approached about avenger initiative so far..you mentioned Cap being debriefed by Fury in that pic..

Thats pure speculation..we dont know exacly what that scene is about or how it fits in the Marvel U timeline.

you got the right idea tho

@ supasego

supposedly the end of the Cap movie leads directly into The Avengers. We also know that at the beginning of Cap, he is found and unfrozen, then the whole of the movie is a flashback of WW2, then it flashes back to present times, where i think we can all assume Fury tells him about the Avengers and whatever threat they have to stop.

All he meant was that if they need his help he will be there. I think he will officially join the avengers in the movie.
