THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Star Chris Hemsworth Says The Franchise Needs To Be Reinvented AGAIN Moving Forward

Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth has shared his take on where the franchise should go next, admitting now would be a good time to go back to the drawing board with the MCU's God of Thunder.

Thor: Ragnarok was the reinvention Marvel Studios' God of Thunder so desperately needed, putting a comedic spin on the hero that freshened him up in a way that struck a chord with fans and critics alike. Thor: Love and Thunder continued in the same vein, but with filmmaker Taika Waititi allowed perhaps too much freedom, the sequel ended up being an overly silly mess.

One of the most poorly reviewed MCU movies alongside Eternals and Thor: The Dark World, it's clear something needs to change if the Odinson is to return for another solo adventure.

That's something Chris Hemsworth recently acknowledged in an interview with Happy Sad Confused.

"You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it," the actor explains. "I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested."

"I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing," Hemsworth adds. "I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity [Laughs]. Thor lost his mind in that last one. He’s got to figure it out now."

We don't want to put words in his mouth, but it sounds an awful lot like Hemsworth realises Thor: Love and Thunder was perhaps a little too comedic. That might explain why he says the character "lost his mind," anyway, and everything from riding Stormbreaker like a witch's broom to those cheesy fight scenes leave us in agreement that a fresh start is needed.

What that will look like remains to be seen, though it would be nice to take Thor back to his roots for a fun, action-packed fantasy adventure. Waititi delivered a rare misfire with the movie, though a new director wouldn't be the worst idea in the world in order to shake things up.

What are your hopes for Thor in the MCU moving forward?

@marvel72 - Yeah, Hulk was only badass in the first Avengers movie. TIH was also good but that's Norton's and the CGi doesn't really hold up all that well.

@UnderBelly -

After he was beaten up by Thanos he went to shit,The Hulk and Thor are my two favourite comic book characters and the pain I suffer watching what they've done to them.

I might have to change my favourite to Silver Surfer they haven't f*cked him up yet.

@marvel72 - Hulk was good till then yeah, but Banner just got more and more annoying since AoU, or it may just be Ruffalo.

I'm loving this actor more and more. Super down to earth and such a successful human being in many ways. His family is beautiful. And he carries a great Outlook on life. That said, I agree with him. I enjoyed love and thunder but I 1000% understand why it garnered the hate it did. As divisive as The Last Jedi in my opinion.

Ragnarok praise clearly went to Taika's head

@ClungesForever - I feel like there was the classic mistake, where they doupled down on what was different compared to the two previous films without actually thinking what truly worked in Ragnarök and what didn't. It also felt a bit like they were just making a sequel to Ragnarök, instead of building upon Thor's arc from Infinity War/Endgame.

@ClungesForever - thiiis, and he doubled down on everything people didn’t like, and then some. Reminds me of guardians of the galaxy. What did we like? Drax being so literal. What did they give us next time? Mean laughter. What did we like? Korg and his mom and stepdad story. What did we get? A retcon and 2 dads. Odin? Zeus. Hulk and Loki? Goat and goat. Taika… ya effin moron. Just make good movies ya idiot. And Gunn! You get one more chance.

I know them personally, I always talk to them like that

@ClungesForever - honestly I never liked ragnarok. And all I see it has over love and thunder is that it's got higher quality with the visuals.
