THOR: RAGNAROK Star Cate Blanchett Will Reportedly Return As Hela For WHAT IF...? Season 2

We never really expected to see Hela again after she was killed-off in Thor: Ragnarok, but a new report claims that Cate Blanchett will return to voice the villain for the second season of What If...?.

Cate Blanchett made her MCU debut as Hela in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, and aside from early rumors that the character was set to appear in this year's Love and Thunder, we've had no solid intel on the villain's potential MCU return - until now.

According to the Disney blog Laughing Place (via /Film), Blanchett is set to return to voice the Queen of the Underworld for the upcoming second season of Disney+ animated series, What If...?

Though we don't have any direct quotes to share, director Bryan Andrews is said to have confirmed Blanchett's reprisal at a LightBox Expo panel, suggesting that "an episode will be dedicated to the character, showing a side of her that wasn't shown in Ragnarok."

Hela's return was previously teased at San Diego Comic-Con, along with several other season 2 details. Though specifics are still under wraps, we do know that Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) will once again be the focal point, and Variants of Odin and The Mandarin will also appear.

Whether Blanchett will ever reprise the role of Hela in live-action remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely given the direction Marvel Studios' Phase 5 and 6 projects appear to be heading in.

While no exact premiere date has been announced, What If...? season 2 is scheduled to hit Disney+ early next year.

They really wasted her as a Villain, she was great but the script didn’t allow for much else. Loved Ragnarok, but the underuse of Blanchett was one of its flaws.

@MisterDoctor217 - Thor Ragnarok's script was one giant flaw.

Yeah they could have toned it down a bit but I think the movie is great

Probably something like hela was the hero and Thor was the villain. They seemed to love just throwing those obvious role switches a lot.

The fact that Marvel can keep getting these big name actors and actresses to return has to say something about them.

I hope they step up for season 2. There were some great episodes in 1 like hank and strange but there were some complete duds like party thor

@MyCoolYoung - dang I was able to completely forget about party Thor. That should have served as a warning for love and thunder

@hazapez - Cate Blanchett does not need Marvel to stay relevant. She’s one of the best actresses of our time.

@MyCoolYoung - the last episode was too short for what the scale of the events in it.

@TheSuperMex - I will say I liked the last two episodes. The one before the last the most, but the last one was solid. I'm definitely wrapped up too quickly, though

I'm good with that. She was easily one of the best characters in general thus far. Her humor was simple, yet effective and she felt like a solid threat.

She is great so nice to her back. Maybe have her had defeated Odin before she got locked up in Hel.
