sounds like they have this right along the lines of Avatar . . . live action and actors w/ CGI "makeup" for the faces, skin and what-not.
a more adult/non-kid friendly approach would be stellar for this movie . . . considering very few people under the age of 30 were even aware of the series' original run. why not take a chance and cater to the original fan base, who are adults now? who really needs more kid friendly crap . . . i dont.

That's a Zbrush digital sculpt, not a mold. And anyone who has that program and some sculpting talent could have done this.

Also, that picture is three years old. If it ever was a legitimate piece of production art attached to an actual movie, it's probably dead in the water now.

At least that particular production anyway. There's a listing on IMDB for a 2012 Thundercats movie, but that doesn't look like something that's happening at the moment either.

Why am I posting a comment on a Thundercats article? I have no idea, other than I dig me some animal people. The cartoon was a bit after my time, though.

The script that was leaked a while back for this movie is pretty good, updates the characters icely, and NO SNARF!!!
