Following 2014’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction, I have determined that the franchise I once loved is in fact over. What I witnessed in that IMAX theatre, on that rainy Thursday night, can never be unseen. With woeful performances, and some of the worst directing I have ever seen, I have given up on Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise.
But alas, I am a creative individual. I determined it was time to put my money where my mouth is, it was time to come up with my own take on the Transformers mythology, and so I did. I wrote a 100-page screenplay (which is below). When writing this screenplay, I envisioned a Transformers film with a similar tone to that of Pacific Rim and Independence Day. The film's plot is quite simple, and is not over blown like Michael Bay's films, which I deem a good thing.
In the script, we follow Spike Witwicky, a soldier who is brought into the Autobot/Decepticon war when he discovers the location of a lost Autobot artefact, which could end the on-going war, following an attack by a Decepticon foe. I originally intended it to become the first of a trilogy, but as schoolwork mounted up, I decided to drop it. The characters in this amazing franchise are indeed some of the best developed, characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron, have been vastly, pardon my language, shat on in the Michael Bay films. Instead of a strong, out-going, and iconic leader, we have a robot that just delivers speeches, and instead of a flawed, humble and frustrated villain, we have... A villain. In this script, I felt it was my responsibility to give characters like Optimus and Megatron some humanity, so you will see a more down-to-Earth Megatron, and a more flawed Optimus.
The film, despite what the script says, is called Robots In Disguise; I think that’s a nice way to freshen the franchise, as well as being a cool reference to the original series. After looking over the screenplay, it is not my best piece of work, but to quote-fellow CBM user Pasto, “It’s better than anything Michael Bay has ever done.” So thank you, Pasto.
