The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime "Transformers" character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

After both cars have been rumored as the classic characters Wheeljack and Mirage, the blue Mercedes and the red Ferrari respectively, Nelson Lauren, on Michael Bay's official forum has finally officially announced who they really are, revealing that they are new characters instead:

Let's welcome the Ferrari 458 Italia to the Transformers family

His name is "Dino."

It's pronounced Dee-No.

Furthermore, he explained where the name comes from:

It's a homage to the son of Ferrari's founder. It was also the codename of the 458 while they were designing it.

And the Mercedes E550 is...

Que. Pronounced "Q."

And regarding the source of the name, Nelson didn't say anything more but giving a link which clearly states that the name comes from 'Q', the character who invents many equipments in the infamous James Bond series.

In the end, this may create some confusion as the names Mirage and Wheeljack have been applied to several promotional stuffs, including toys and kids story books. Anyway, follow the link below to visit the thread and check out the complete discussion.

With the cast of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson as well as the voices of Peter Cullen and Leonard Nimoy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon will land on theaters on June 29, later this year!

The stupid thing is that the toys are going to carry the Mirage and Wheeljack names. That's how we found out that the Ferrari was named "Mirage." A matchbox car with his name on it leaked, and the comic adaptations that have come out refer to them both as Mirage and Wheeljack.

Way to go Michael Bay, you've started naming characters after people's kids, as long as the price is right.

WTF? Why make up names? This smells fishy.

"What absolute 'orse ****!" Blatant lies, who the hell even is this guy? Mirage is in the friggin game and named in the toys and comics, I'm not sure why anyone would believe this.

I think the only thing that bothers me about this franchise in general, s they've never really followed any Gen1 storylines. Other than the obvious Autobots vs Decepticons on earth. The whole point of the cartoon series was the Decepticons trying to get energon. I mean, even if they would've followed the Transformers movie in this one, I'd a been completely fulfilled. But now that there doesn't appear to be a Rodimus Prime, or even a Hot Rod, I'm left thoroughly dissappointed. I've enjoyed these movies immensely. But to think I've been on the edge of my seat and giddy with anticipation for my favorite Transformer for the past 5 or 6 years. I almost feel like I've officially lost my child hood. Thanks Michael Bay. I hope you're crippled in a car accident and are forced to watch shit movies that have no real point.

@Sparrow Nelson is Bay's personal assistant who confirms or debunks rumors & announces stuffs from the movie!

So unless there's further news coming up later, I think this is what they are going with: screwing things.

Yeah I was thinking that the red Ferrari would be Hot Rod.

@Jolt

Even so, I'm still not buying it. I mean they're not even robot sounding names, at least the ones made up for the movies sounded like they could've come from the originals. Dino (for a robot that is not a dinosaur) and Que (which makes even less sense than just calling him Q) are not names that sound like they could be attributed to transformers.

Also, where the heck is Silverbolt? I've not seen him in any trailers and yet he was supposedly confirmed months back with James Avery as voicing him.

@Sparrow Well what to say, it apparently is official, well yeah me not buying it too!

As for 'Bolt, we'll just have to wait I guess.
