Apparently, filming has now been suspended after the stunt gone awry reportedly resulted in the serious injury of a 24-year-old extra in East Chicago. Below is a video and highlights of the report courtesy of SuperHeroHype. Various other sources are reporting that she was airlifted to hospital but neither they or Paramount/Dreamworks have released a statement giving an update on the situation.

A 24-year-old woman participating in a car stunt suffered a serious head injury during a 'Transformers 3' shoot in northwest Indiana one day before filming was supposed to conclude in the Chicago area.

Extra Gabriela Cedillo was injured on the set Wednesday night along a stretch of Cline Avenue, which was closed to traffic for filming, in East Chicago.

A stunt was apparently being performed during filming when Cedillo, who is not a stuntman, was hurt.

The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle," said fellow extra Blaine Baker. "The cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman's car and sliced through her skull, apparently."

A stuntman was tragically killed during the filming of The Dark Knight but hopefully this will not be the case here especially as this woman did nothing to put herself in harms way, and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing Gabriela a speedy recovery.

Wow thats no joke of an injury. A cable slicing through you cranium. Not fun at all.

Hope she recovers, Hope the movie is at least good now that someone has been fatally wounded in the making of it?

Oh man. That's horrible. Damn, it's not even in service of like an amazing movie or anything. The woman went to hospital for a Michael Bay movie.

That's awful! Extras are the most underappreciated people on a set. The acting equivelent of working in the proverbial mail room. Hopefully she recovers fully and quickly and can get back to pursuing her dream!
I think it's safe to say that this is the ONLY aspect of the movie that Michael Bay won't try to take complete and total credit for.

Airbeyonder18, yes and no, she wasn't a stunt double that being said I would say this event was more of a freak accident. It could happen to anyone when it comes to failing equipment.

I'm sure the studio is getting prepared for a lawsuit, if or when she hopefully gets better.

Devin@ There is a slim chance she didn't sign an injury waver. They are covered. She won't be able to sue.

Still no joke on this one, that has to be scary as hell.

@Intruder- Phineaus Gage, check it out

Her attorney said shes in a coma. they dont think she's going to make it. Thats sh!tty as all hell.

@Brash- even with a waiver, there still ways around that.

On seperate note- saw them filming scene with Tuturro and Shia in an alley that they added a giant neon sign saying "STRONG"- like for a bar. Both actors kept looking up like talking to something or Tuturro trying to give a pep talk. The new Mercedes looks sick.

I hope she makes a full recovery. Not only that she should be given a big thank you on the screen credits. Extras and the crew are the real stars in my opinion. They make everything go on the set. Underappreciated is an uderstatement to say the least. It's gonna cost Bay & Co. several millions to pay for her pain and suffering provided she doesn't pass away. Everybody say a prayer for the young lady.

I have a friend who works on tow-boats, and he got whipped in the face once when a tow cable snapped. shattered his jaw knocked out 5 teeth, he said it was the worst pain he'd ever experienced. Good luck to miss Cedillo.

This sounds like a very bad injury..A cable slicing through her skull? At best it sounds like she's going to be brain damaged. I HOPE HOPE HOPE that's not the case and she makes a FULL recovery.

I didnt know someone DIED on The Dark Knight! i wonder if it was during that epic car chase scene where the Semi flipped over. I really hope Gabriela pulls through and makes a speedy recovery.

Firstly, I pray the girl to be fully recovered.

Beyond that, let me tell you that I'd be the first and loudest to say I loathe Michael Bay and the whole Transformers movie series. I despise them! However, as I read the article, this is a gear/equipment failure and NOT Michael Bay's fault.

I'm sure everything is taken care of by the insurance and if the girl turns out okay (which is what we're all praying, I'm sure) it will come nowhere near any lawsuit.

A lawsuit is out of the question. The production is likely HEAVILY insured, not too mention any legal action seeking monetary gain, if any, would result in an out of court settlement and we'd all be none the wiser.
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 9/2/2010, 11:47 PM
Didn't mythbusters bust the myth about being sliced by a broken cable? She may have trauma from the impact, but the "witness" account of the cable slicing through the car and her skull seems highly suspect.
Orehrepus
Orehrepus - 9/3/2010, 12:10 AM
@RoadDog: what are you laughing at? Would you like to see others laugh when responding to a news that your sister is a victim of a terrible accident?

@Bergeron: They did? Well, even if some exaggeration is involved here, I'm sure she would be cut by the lashing cable, even if it doesn't go through the skull. And that's still something you don't want to experience.

Blaine Baker, who said he was one of about 100 extras on the scene Wednesday, said he and other extras sat in cars on the right shoulder of the road and saw Cedillo's car skid by.

"When the car came by, it was hugging the rail in the middle of the street," said Baker, 59, of Palatine. "We saw it go over the hill and we heard a huge crash. We said, 'Somebody better call the police and ambulance because somebody just got hurt.'"

Cedillo was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with a serious head injury, police said. Police said family members told them she was listed in critical condition.

At the "Transformers 3" shoot, extras were paid minimum wage, plus $25 a day for the use of their car, Baker said.

Cedillo, who is a teller at a bank near her home in the Little Village community, always dreamed of appearing in movies, her family said.

@ RoadDog Dude what is wrong with you?? Like Orehrepus said this is nothing to laugh at. Im a Volunteer Fire Fighter and sen some pretty crzy and scary things in the 6 and a half years I've been in. Do You have any idea how scary it can be to be called out in the middle of the night to an accident and see a car into a tree or on its roof or slam into a triaxel truck and spin out of control and skid down a guard rail and have the guy in the vehicle stop breathing twice on the way to the Helicopter and on the trird time never breathe again because of internal injuries. I ask you RoadDog what is wrong with you?? Have you no compassion?? I ask you do you?
