Roberto Orci And Alex Kurtzman Off Scripting Duties For Transformers 3

The pair of uber writers responsible for such great scripting on things like Star Trek and awful scripting on stuff like..well, Transformers 2 , have stated they definitely wont be returning for the threequel...

According to Slashfilm, Roberto Orci confirmed in a forum post that he and Alex Kurtzman would not return at all for Transformers 3, leaving script duties entirely in the hands of Ehren Kruger, who also worked on the ROTF script..

Responding to one fans query as to whether they were off the project, Orci said..

“It’s true. Time for fresh blood! The main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We’ll see.”

Apparently, Kruger is credited(if thats the right word) with the majority of the "humor" in ROTF, which many found unfunny and very irritating. Yes, I am aware that some found it delightful and hilarious too! And it looks like your in for a lot more of the same now that Kruger is in the driving seat(no doubt with Bay campaigning for more scenes of stuff humping)

Another interesting post was from Orci to a fan stating that some parents may avoid brining their kids to the third movie after the crude and distinctly non kid friendly content in ROTF...to which Orci responded, “I can’t blame them.”

With Bay working on a story at the moment, he is aiming for a 2011 release.

I guess its pretty futile, but lets hope by some miracle the next movie has more of this..

And less of this...

F**K. I liked both transfomers movies. Especially, for the comedy

well that comment from them,"I can't blame them." speaks volumes. For the longest time I've wondered why there was such a gulf in quality between what he's done before and rotf. I mean he's no shakespeare but his balance between humor and action has always been good. And by humor I don't mean obscenities, I found the second transformers to be really low brow and now we know why. It seems Orci and Kurtzman had less control over rotf, and it suffered noticeably. With out them aboard I don't think I'll even bother with the third, I've had enough poorly done robot humor to last me a while.
I'm pumped for the next star trek though!

Better not have more of the comedy humor, why didn't Ehren Kruger leave as well? If he's the main reason that ROTF did so bad then he should leave as well, I want to see action and a good story, but not like anything from the Twins. I just hope they get better people to do the script

No no guys, you misread it..there will now more than likely be MORE humping, farting, crying, handicapped mothers, hairy man ass and Devastators balls in the next one..according to sources that say Kruger was responsible for all that shit in the last one anyway.

Thanks KIR, i hope so too! I'll still see it for the big robots anyway!..maybe:)

@Rorschach01 - Damn dude I missed that....Your right...Here's my beef...Why put that crap in a movie that most people will see just because. The last movie was just OK...Had alot of potential thought. Then they do stupid crap like that. This franchise can bring it in to where do a good script.

Awwwwww...Crap. While I didn't think ROTF was the worst movie ever, it was not up to the level it needed to be. That "humor" ruined the film for me. Granted, I did chuckle at a few moments, it all just became annoying by the end of the film. Time will tell I guess.

WEll, obviously, they're off because they're sick of Michael Bay screwing with their ideas by throwing in as much idiotic "humor" as possible.

It's really a shame because, as terrible as both films were, they were just terrible executions of decent stories. Now they won't even have that going for them.

what the writer(s) for TF3 need to do, i s actually look up transformer lore, give the bots more personality, and the leave the innuendo with the sequel.
ROTF has so much potential. i liked it as an actioneer but for all of that alice crap and wheelie acting like the chihuahua- also leave the dogs in the trailer!
i dont want to see that! i'm all for comedy but this movie was more about selling sex than transformers.

i know bay was trying to sell this movie by multiplying what worked in the first movie. but he didn't have to! all he had to do was get the humans out of the way so we could see the transformers.

Here's why Transformers should sell itself:

it's a movie about GIANT FREAKIN' ROBOTS THAT TRANSFORM and KICK THE CRAP OUT OF EACH OTHER!!!

'nuff said.

Heh heh. This franchise is ruined. It's going the same way Pirates went. The first one (Pirates 1) was good, and then the next 2 was just a bunch of crap riding on the coat-tails of success created by the first movie. They know people are still going to go and see this movie regardless of how bad it sucks or how bad ROTF sucked. They're going to milk this franchise for every penny it is worth.

...but they're not getting a dime out of me bwa ha ha ha.

ITS TIME FOR NEW WRITERS, BAY HAS AN EYE FOR ACTION AND SEXY, WHAT I THINK..THE WRITERS GAVE HIM A PATH AND HE FOLLOWED IT, HE'S A VISUAL GUY, AN ACTION JUNKY, I THINK THE WRITERS SAW THE COMEDY AND ACTION AND EXPLOSIONS HE DOES AND JUST CRAMMED IT ALL IN...TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING IS BAD..NOT SAYING ROTF WAS BAD..IT WAS GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST..NEW WRITERS SOUNDS AWSOME..THIS IS WHAT TRANSFORMERS 3 NEEDS-I WANNA SEE UNICRON AND A BATTLE AWAY FROM EARTH, MAYBE OTHER PLANETS, TRYING TO SAVE CYBERTRON AND THE EARTH BY BATTLING THE ENEMY IN SPACE..MUCH LIKE ARMAGEDON..SO THIS WOULD BE RIGHT UP BAY'S ALLEY...

They probably sat down in the first brainstorming meeting with Bay and Kruger, heard what they planned and thought: "Screw this, we have a reputation to maintain."

TF3 will most likely suck because they never really figured out what they did wrong in the first film because as the second film has shown, they kicked up everything that crippled the first one. So they think they know what they're doing and will continue the trend.
This franchise is busted. The director doesn't like Transformers, so how can he possibly create a film paying respect to the material if he thinks the material itself is childish bullshit? He can't. It'll be more of the same garbage just thrown into overdrive that will only truly entertain people who get excitable boners when they attend a Monster Truck Rally. A gormless crowd that would wet their pants in laughter at other gems like "Meet The Spartans" or everything else Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have done.

It will most likely suck and I just hope they leave Ultra Magnus out of it.

The humor ruined this movie! It's not supposed to be about potty humor...it's freakin' transformers! Funny I don't remember off-color humor in the cartoon! And the humans in here are just plain annoying! And the robots are so far from Transformers that this is a total other idea altogether! Geez, can't anybody see this is total horseshit!!!! I wanna pull Bay's eyeballs out and stuff 'em up his butt! Let's see if he likes that off-colored humor!

DDD - 10/7/2009, 3:54 AM
Potty humor ain't exactly bad for Transformers but the way Bay used it, it was. The jokes were too silly for my liking, oh, I liked the ones that were actually funny but there were a lot that weren't, just stupid! At least their was more robot action in this one. But without Orci and Kurtzman I ain't wasting my money on the third!
WeaponX
WeaponX - 10/7/2009, 5:20 AM
We all chuckle at silly crap every so often but by the same token it shouldn't give a writer or director cause to subject an audience member to a relentless serving of idiocy.

Dreamwave. It kept elements of the cartoon but updated the world enough that the first series of the comics (Transformers: Generation 1; Prime Directive) adapted would have been a thousand times, scratch that, a million times better than the crap we eventually got served. A collection of comics that stands to prove you can stay traditional without turning it into a Saturday morning romper room event. This is what a fan means when it should have been closer to the Gen 1 stuff. Not having robots run around with pink cubes side stepping humans wearing yellow hard hats and yellow wellies.

The idea of throwing in corny-ass jokes just for the sole benefit of people unaware of Transformers is a ridiculous notion. Transformers, the first one, was a fine action film but a shit Transformers film. The opportunity to address the issue of making it about the titled characters, was again, ignored in ROTF. The humor written was dumb down to a childish sandbox level. The robots got worse and all the returning characters became more obnoxious and remained one dimensional. Anyone who had an ounce of respect for the source material would never turn Mudflap and Skids into jive talkin', gold tooth sporting, homeboys. Never.

It still made a lot of money so as far as Michael Bay and his ego are concerned the logical direction would be to continue the trend and that means, further deviation from the robots themselves, more explosions and down right moronic toilet humor for Transformers 3. If an individual is fine with accepting mediocrity, then that's cool, for them. Myself, I demand better value for my time and money and T3 will get neither.

Weapon X@! Agree with all you said back there!

Potty humor's OK but infantile and moronic humor done badly, tastelessly is not! Transformers stunk to me 'cause it was so dumbed-down it watered-down the movies integrity.

And the characters are not getting the respect they deserve. They're not being fleshed out and made more developed!

Transformers 2 was just so shallow to me and that is what Bay is, a shallow movie-maker who doesn't respect his source material. He even said he doesn't care about the source material! He just wants to make bang and nothing but bang makes a movie hollow and without a deep and intricate heart beating healthily!

But that is what most of Hollywood is now, HOLLOW! JJ Abrams and Favrerau made wonderful movies with the source material respected and the characters fully fleshed out but still had so much bang it was exhilerating! That's why ppl loved Star Trek and Iron Man so much!

The first one was alright...just didn't care that much for the bot designs...looked like somebody had some strategically placed magnets in humanoid form and then stuck some damn scrap metal to it. Didn't bother with the second one in the theater...couple more weeks and I'll watch it on blu-ray at the casa...with a 12 pack.

Its not even just a case of how juvenile the humor was, its that Bay does not know when to use it, and when to be serious. In the middle of what is supposed to be the final fight for survival or good vs evil, what does he have? That retarded room mate character burst into tears with a big close up of his face in the back seat of Bumblebee! Thats just one example. The man is a child in a sandbox to quote Weapon X. I'm surprised he didn't have the twins pop up during Prime's death scene eating watermelon and calling Megatron a mofo. Bottom line is, whether you found the humor funny or not is moot, Transformers is not supposed to be a comedy. Its supposed to be an action adventure movie with humorous elements..just like the first one did so well imo. ROTF was basically American Pie with robots.
dancingmonkey08
dancingmonkey08 - 10/7/2009, 8:56 AM
Rorschach, I couldnt have put it better myself: "American Pie with robots"! lol That sums up Transformers 2 perfectly. At least in American Pie, the humour was funny and was needed in that particular movie, not in Transformers!

And why has no mentioned the dreaded R word yet? In a [frick]ing X-Men article, it would be mentioned a million times already but here it is not even thought of! But I will say it then: a REBOOT may be needed after no.3

well the thing American pie was actually good, so I'd say like National Lampoon's the rise of Tajj with robots.
