GOTHAM Set To Introduce Scarecrow

Gotham has gone through a good chunk of Batman's rogues gallery already and now executive producer Danny Cannon has revealed that the writers are currently hard at work on an episode that will introduce the frightening Scarecrow.. with a bit of a twist! Come check it out!

Gotham has done a pretty good job so far this season introducing classic Batman villains including the Penguin, Catwoman, the Riddler, Carmine Falcone, Salvatore Maroni, Harvey Dent, and Victor Zsasz. They also have plans to introduce Mr. Freeze in a future episode and have teased an appearance by the Joker on numerous occassions. Now, it looks like we can add one more name to the long list of villains: the Scarecrow!

Executive producer Danny Cannon revealed at Comikaze that the writers are in the midst of working on an episode that will introduce a young Scarecrow: "We're breaking the story now, the villain will be seen as a child, before he takes on the Scarecrow moniker. In fact, it's something that will be passed on to him from his father, which will create an eventual enemy for Batman while still having an adversary for Jim Gordon."

So he won't exactly be the Scarecrow we know and fear, at least at first, but it looks like his dad will prove to be a more than formidable foe for Jim Gordon. This will be the second live action portrayal of the Scarecrow after Christopher Nolan recently brought the character to life in his Dark Knight trilogy.

What do you guys think of the news? Sound off with your thoughts below!

I'm not a fan of this show, I'd prefer everyone who is part of the Batman's rogues gallery to stay out of the show and just focus on Gordon and the corruption of Gotham and the organised crime and show the city begin to decay after the death of the Waynes so that it does become the Batman's Gotham when Bruce is old enough to don the cowl.

Passed on by his father??
Give me a break. I'm really liking this show. Don't muck it up!

This actually sounds pretty interesting. A young Jonathon Crane who inherits the Scarecrow moniker from his father. I like it

Wow... Jonathan Crane's dad is the Scarecrow who passes on the mantle to his son?

I'm really glad I stopped DVRing this show. That sounds so forced and cliched.

I feel like I'm the only one that really likes this idea. The New 52 arc of 'Batman: The Dark Knight' focusing on the Scarecrow sheds light on his history with his father and I think this fits beautifully with that. Also +1 to the producers for keeping at least SOME of them young...like Harvey Dent should be.

Batman never threw for 12 TD passes in 2 weeks. That record belongs to Ben Roethlisberger.

Glad to hear he'll be showing up. I love this show. Almost as much as I love reading people's concocted gripes about it.
You just don't want to face the truth: that the Batman from the comics and films beats up on old people a lot.

I like the camp. Reminds of Tim Burton's Batman in so many ways, especially the humor.

So far this show seems to be leading into something more like Burton's Batman except without Lando as Harvey Dent. Anyone else notice the high smile cheekbones on the Wayne's killer?

IDK. I watched a few episodes, and I just can't get into it. Not that its BAD perse, I just can't stand some of the characters. The subplot of Barbara being an ex lesbo is ham fisted, and stupid. Fish is just a stupid character all around, and Jada really pulls an Uma Poison Ivy thing where she just overacts to the point of being ridiculous. The Penguin acts like an awkwardly gay little bitch. Nygma...HORRIBLE actor. Gordon, and Bullock are the only ones I remotely like, but the writing just isn't good. I may wait til this show finds its legs before I dive in, but its on FOX, so I don't see it being around that long. I'll get my comics on TV from AOS, Arrow, Flash, and Walking Dead for now.

@TokenNerd I'm completely agree with you 100%. The star of the show should be Jim Gordon, not The Penquin.

The thing is though, if they changed the format out of the show that much, the show would lose a lot of viewers. People are tuning into see Batman's rogues and Bruce Wayne. That's why this show was a mistake in the first place...

They should've just done a TV show about Bruce Wayne in his mid 20's who is traveling around the world learning martial arts and helping people out of dangerous situations. You can have an episode where Bruce Wayne heads to South America and learns of an escaped convict by the name of Dorrance(Bane). It turns out he escaped after being administered an early version of Venom by the prison, so Bruce feels compelled to track him down after learning how dangerous he is. And also the rumors that he was experimented on against his will attract Bruce to the case.

After Bruce barley escapes taking down Dorrance(has semi-enhanced strength due to early version of Venom) with the help of the police, you could have a scene towards the end where Dorrance is in a highly secure cell, and requests to talk with Bruce before he leaves. When Bruce comes in to talk to him, he asks Bruce what is his greatest fear. Bruce says that bats terrify him, and then Dorrance tells him that is something they have in common. But then Bruce says something like, that if you can learn to embrace your fear, you can make yourself stronger. To which Dorrance says, that fear can also break a person(foreshadowing to Knightfall). Bruce Wayne says goodbye to him, but Dorrance tells him he believe that were meant to met, and that they are destined to meet again(more foreshoading to Knightfall).

Then you have a scene where there is a doctor discussing with the warden(who is quite angry) about Dorrance escaping due to the experiment. The doctor tells the warden his is working on a never version of Venom, and that will have better security protocols in place this time. The warden gives him the doctor the go ahead to continue developing and testing Venom on Dorrance.

That's how excited I am about the prospect of a Bruce Wayne TV show. I couldn't write all that out, if I wasn't excited.

I really hope we get the actual Batman prequel TV series in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath.

After Gotham is cancelled early, I'm not sure we will be seeing another live-action Batman TV show any time soon...

Shit lol... that's what happens when you write too fast.

@Deschain You bring up a great point. They have already tapped into Batman's rogues gallery a lot in just the first season.

When you're doing a TV show based on a comic book property, you don't bring in a lot of majors villains in the first season. That is a big mistake.

You have to hold off on having villains appear to save for them for use in later seasons. The writing is on the wall. If Gotham is renewed for a second season, I don't see season 3 happening. They've made too many mistakes with this show right out of the gate.

Starts out like a child. The only character that keeps me captivated is The Penguin, every other character is annoying and it disappoint's me because i love Batman and his mythos.

The show is not terrible but it's not great either.

I don't know why they don't use characters like Hugo Strange, Vandal Savange, and (if he wasnt on Arrow) Ras al ghul. Also maybe even lesser knowns like what Beware of the Batman tried doing. I wouldn't mind if the likes of Prof. Pyg, Lady Shiva, Anarchy, etc were older than Bruce. I just dont like Riddler and Two-Face being so much older. I like that Freeze is supposed to be coming. What about that character...from Brave and the Bold...um...the black and white guy, balancing good and evil...help me out here....
