New GOTHAM Featurette Focuses On Alfred & Bruce's Relationship

Based upon characters published by DC Entertainment and produced by Warner Bros. Television, GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. Starring Ben McKenzie ("Southland," "The O.C."), Donal Logue ("Sons of Anarchy," "Terriers," "Vikings," "Copper") and Jada Pinkett Smith ("The Matrix" films, "HawthoRNe"), GOTHAM follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. Executive producer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist") wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the "CSI" franchise, "Nikita"). John Stephens will serve as an executive producer on the series.

I just saw episode 8 with Black Mask and it was actually pretty good. I'ma give it another shot

Loving Pertwee as Alfred, I think Jeremy irons will take a similar direction with his interpretation of Alfred for BvS. My interest in the show is coming back after the last episode. Hope they continue this upward trend.

i was always curious about what Alfred was like, immediately AFTER the Waynes were murdered, and BEFORE Bruce left for far-away lands to train to be the batman. OBVIOUSLY, he had to take over as a single parent. and judging by how the Waynes raised Bruce, NANNIES WERE OUT OF THE QUESTION. ALL THE ALFREDs we've seen in the movies and TV have been pretty much supportive crutches to the batman.

THIS ALFRED makes sense, just as those other alfreds make sense............for this timeline in the batman myth. he is more interactive and not afraid to engage his charge. he knows bruce needs a parent, and so this alfred will try his best to be a parent. and though the producers won't show it, i wouldn't be surprised if this alfred spanked Bruce for doing something naughty.

and that's one of the things i always look forward to on this show. and i look forward to their relationship developing throughout the series.

Great Alfred screw the haters. You have to be teetering on the mentally unstoppable side to father someone like Bruce Wayne. Makes sense that he gave him that watch and stood by as Bruce kicked that guys ass. I like him, polished and rough around the edges. I guess some of you girly guys would rather see an Alfred sitting around polishing silver? Bunch of sissies!

I'm not digging the Bruce/Alfred stuff. It's just foreshadowing without substance. It's like the writers are just trying to show us: "See how this kid becomes Batman!", but they aren't actually telling a story about who that kid really is. It all smacks of tiresome pseudo-destiny that permeates this era of comic adaptations.

I was loving this show, but the last few episodes have really soured on me. The Penguin storyline ("Tell Gordon to kill me and if he doesn't I'll work for you"? Seriously, that's the [frick]ing twist? That's the [frick]ing plan?) used to be my favorite part, but RLT's performance is getting too hammy and his exaggerated walk is dumb and Carol Kane is a rolling disaster.

Gordon being the "one good cop" stuff is okay, and much better than the previous dynamic, but another episode like the last couple and I'll probably drop the series.

Little Bruce was kinda annoying me at first, but then I figured hey, how else would little Batman act. But if you would have told me he was going to be bullied at school, gets revenge, then starts training with alfred, I would have rolled my eyes and left the room. Turns out seeing it was [frick]ing awesome. Great scenes, good storyline. Wasn't really enjoying the Bruce stuff as much as the Gordon and Harvey stories, but I'm on-board with the young Bruce stuff right now.

Still not a big fan of baby catwoman and even tho Jada was killing it at the start of the series, her acting is becoming more and more over-the-top. Its too exaggerated. I hope she dies soon. And Penguins Mom too.

What @darth said and we know Alfred has been a father figure to Bruce. Batman is cold, authoritative and keen to help and to train orphan kids, now we know where he got it from. The current relation between Alfred and the young Bruce is what is must to be, there is no way for Bruce become what is going to be without an external influence, if Superman is who he is because of the Kents then Batman is what he is mainly because of Alfred.

On that first point, again. The murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne have always been the driving force behind the obsession and psychosis that drives young Bruce to eventually put on a costume and beat people with his bare hands. True.

But this idea that their murder was also the emotional flash point of an entire generation of borderline psychotics across a metropolitan area is lazy and insulting. Just because something is important to the hero it therefore must be important for everyone else... for some reason.

It's just like that revisionist piece of garbage J.J. Abrams made a few years back and had the audacity to call it Star Trek. Instead of just being a damn good Starfleet officer who deserved a commission and got one, the entire goddamn universe (including the circumstances of his own birth) seemed to be conspiring to put him in that Captain's chair. The sequel even more so, just had to weigh everything down in portentous foreshadowing and self-flagellating references.
