AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Adds Powers Boothe As A Man Even "Ward Would Fear"

You may remember Powers Boothe played a member of the World Security Council in the first Avengers movie, but it seems he'll be playing a completely different character in Marvel's third season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., named Gideon Malick. Click on for more...

Marvel has announced that Powers Boothe (Sin City, Deadwood, Tombstone) has joined the cast of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Gideon Malick, who is described as "a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery." Though Booth already appeared as a member of the World Security Council in the MCU, he won't be reprising that role, as Malick seems to be a character created just for this show.

"Gideon is incredibly menacing and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Only someone of Powers’ caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed.”

Malick's loyalties may be mysterious, but that certainly makes it sound like he's going to be a villain! No details on when we can expect to see him debut, but be sure to tune in to the next episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. next Tuesday.

Might still be the same character, which would be really cool! If not he'd be another example of an actor appearing in different MCU roles, so an increased chance of more Natalie Dormer somewhere down the line.

With as small and one-note as his role in Avengers was, it could be a character created for the show and still the same guy.

If Malich is a politician, there's no reason they wouldn't be.

I'm just happy these shows came out in the fall. It would have been overload if it came out in the Summer with all the movies.

So he's turned from one generic businessman/politician character to another generic businessman/politician character.

I always remember Powers Boothe from Rapid Fire with Brandon Lee.
Especially when he says to his subordinate something like, "..Great work Lieutenant, go get yourself a box of doughnuts..."

I don't think ward has human feelings. You might as well replace him with r2d2

That's a assumption from the guy who wrote the article on this site.

Marvel only said this:
"Powers Boothe (“Sin City,” “Deadwood,” “Nashville”) has joined “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in a recurring role as Gideon Malick, a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery. Boothe previously appeared in “Marvel’s The Avengers” as a member of the World Security Council.

I would like peoples behind comic book shows to understand that we don't watch their shows because they are good, we're not that dumb, we watch them because it's our duty...

@HappyHater I'd say you're 60 percent correct.

Comic book shows are good almost 40 percent of the time. The rest of the time we're just doing our duty.

With the whole Hydra storyline, maybe Gideon Malik is somehow related to Albert Malik AKA the second Red Skull. This would make sense considering the original Red Skull is nowhere in site and the third season will probably tie into CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. The series did introduce Warner von Strucker in order to build the new Hydra, after all. Maybe Albert Malik is next.

His best scene. Was about to post the same thing.

Glad to see him on Shield!
