It's been confirmed today that Joey Defore has been cast as a young Baron Von Strucker in the March 30th episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. titled "Rise and Shine." As you'll no doubt recall, Thomas Kretschmann played the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron and he was portrayed as the new leader of HYDRA after the villainous organisation was disbanded in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The character's son appeared in the series a couple of years ago but Strucker himself has never actually shown up (mostly because he was killed by Ultron after just a few paltry minutes of screentime).

This episode of the ABC series is going to feature flashbacks exploring General Hale's past and her ties to HYDRA. We're also going to see a younger version of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jasper Sitwell, a character revealed to be loyal to the villainous organisation in The Winter Soldier. How do you guys feel about this casting news for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Looks like him.

Also his look was better in that MCU Cap game

@Kevwebsz - Just pretend that's his Grand/father, hence the different look.

The games aren't really canon, but I guess we're all free to make our own headcanon. In the Iron Man 3 game, Aldrich Killian became M.O.D.O.K. (no joke).

Still can't work who Ruby is supposed to be yet. I feel it's more misdirection (e.g. Mike/Deathlok, Andrew/Lash) before the big reveal.

@DukeSimian - I think she's working for The Superior

@HeavyMetal4Life - yeah I was thinking that as well, which makes me wonder if she could be a weird Gwenpool analogue. I had thought she (Dove Cameron) was going to be Songbird.

I still hope that he returns as a half cyborg, containing inside what little remains of Ultron.

@Repian - I just rewatched Avengers 2 last night. I wish they would have kept him alive instead of using him as a throw away character. If Ultron had tortured and maimed him so he couldn't communicate it would have been better than killing him IMO.

Its corny but they could have said it was a fake out to make people believe he was dead for whatever reason the writers would have to come up with

@TheBlueMorpho - Maybe even "we found him barely alive but we don't know if he'll make it" would have worked too. Leaves it open either way.

@MNLawyer - if they wanted to have him come back, they could. We never did really see a body (and unless that happens in a comic book film or show, the character might not be entirely dead), only heard about his death.

Honestly, the character (like most MCU villains) was utterly wasted. I hope Agents of SHIELD makes better use of him. Since he aren't getting another Hulk film any time soon, I'm surprised they haven't made The Leader a villain on the show yet. In the Avengers prequel comic, he was taken into SHIELD custody and he would make an awesome big bad.

They also need to address the loose ends from Iron Man 3, particularly the Mandarin and the fact that the Ten Rings are still active.

Loose ends for the MCU to address:

-The Leader from Incredible Hulk (potentially as a big bad on Agents of SHIELD)

-The Mandarin and the continued operations of the Ten Rings (which is problematic, since that would be Tony Stark's responsibility and we're problably not getting an Iron Man 4)

-Ghost Rider's backstory teased by Agent Coulson

-A number of characters and plotlines that were abruptly dropped by Agents of SHIELD, such as Ian Quinn and the Gravitonium, the fates of Blizzard and Daniel Whitehall (the latter of which has regeneration powers), the Deathlok program, ETC.

-The cliffhangers from Agent Carter and the huge unfilled gap of history in the 1900s involving HYDRA, Leviathan, the Black Widow program, the Winter Soldier program, the fate of Agent Thompson, Anton Vanko, ETC.

-Surely Arnim Zola's robotic consciousness wasn't destroyed for good, right? Surely he would be smart enough to back it up on a hard-drive elsewhere before the explosion? Then again, I didn't believe Veronica Cale was truly dead, so who knows...

-Bobbi Morse hasn't really became Mockingbird yet.

And there's probably other loose ends that I'm forgetting.

I would also mention that Agent Coulson's resurrection hasn't been revealed to the Avengers yet, but I doubt the films will ever directly interact or crossover with the TV shows. There's a clear hierarchy, where the movies come first and the TV shows get what's left over.
