AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Jed Whedon On Whether Infinity War Will Impact The Show

Over the years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been influenced by events in the MCU, but it has been unclear whether things will be true for Infinity War. Now, Jed Whedon has briefly addressed this question...

During a WonderCon panel, several members of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fielded numerous questions from the show’s fans. Most of these questions were focused directly on the show itself, until one fan asked what effects (if any) the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War will have on the show's future.

This question was ultimately answered by Jed Whedon, one of the show’s showrunners, who started things off by expressing his own feeling on the film’s trailer: “If you watched the trailer, a lot of sh*t goes down!” Whedon followed this statement by saying, “these are the kinds of questions we can do everything but answer,” clarifying what he can say a bit. Likely knowing how some fans may respond to this answer, the showrunner did elaborate a little more by recalling previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films that had an impact on the series: “The movies blaze a path. When Doctor Strange came out it introduced us to magic which gave us Ghost Rider; when [Guardians of the Galaxy] came out, we were introduced to space. We are waiting for that movie to come out so it can open a new playground for us."

Though these statements don't confirm that Infinity War will have a direct impact on the show, it does suggest we can expect, at the very least, a loose connection between the two. But what do you folks think? Do you think there's a chance this will happen, and if so, will it be in a large or small way?

Will this show be around long enough to see the change?

I haven't kept up with the new season that much since I'm rewatching the films + AoS in chronological order before IW. And I'm impressed at how the show has improved regularly with great character arcs and special guests. Ghost Rider kicks ass !

We shall have to wait and see. Jeph Loeb (I think it was him) hinted that Infinity War or Avengers 4 would address Coulson [and SHIELD]. So we shall see! It is all connected, even if the movies don't feature characters or events from the shows...

@HeavyMetal4Life - Well, there's this film One Night Stand where you have Blade being bossed around in bed by Melinda May while Tony Stark is in the final stage of dying of AIDS.

@CapA - Realized there was also Mr Hyde and Sandman in the film - but I can't remember what their parts are. It's the Marvel movies actors extended universe.

It’ll address Coulson status in the MCU by killing him off in the finale of Agents of Shield, making everyone in the movies non the wiser.

I really like the show and I think it helps keep interest in the mud. Sadly enough the show may end due to what happens in infinity war

I don't expect nor pretend to see anything about an IW tie in, although it would be super cool, especially if we get another season.

Well this season they went 90 years into the future, where no one mentions Thaos, Infinity stones or anything like that. So good to know the Avengers ave the world and there's no lasting effects. Good job guys!

@CMgeek - The Avengers use the Infinity gauntlet to reverse Thanos' actions and erase them in Avengers IV, I'm thinking.

If Thanos is meant to be as powerful as they say he is with the gauntlet, then maybe he could end the show.
