Clark Gregg Speculates On How AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Tie-In To CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

This may come as a bit of a shock to you, but it looks like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. might just end up crossing over with Captain America: Civil War... What's that? You're not surprised at all? Well hit the jump anyway to see how Clark Gregg thinks it could happen!

In the most unsurprising news of the day, Clark Gregg has suggested that the third season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will tie-in to Captain America: Civil War - but he also speculated on how. Speaking to EW while attending NYCC, the popular actor behind the 'Son of Coul' gave his thoughts on how the new season could possibly connect to the Russo Bros' highly anticipated 2016 film.

"That’s one of the things I love about our show. The writers are fearless about trashing the whole thing. It kind of reinvents itself every season. Now what’s going on is the global outbreak of Terragenesis, people turning into Inhumans. Coulson’s team is very much about finding these poeple and taking care of them in one way and in the other make sure they’re not that particular kind of Inhuman that’s a threat. That seems to be making what we thought was the number one priority, building Secret Warriors, a bit on the back-burner for the moment."

"Civil War has always been about the registration of superheroes and people with powers. I suspect what we’re doing will connect with that in some way. What I like about what Marvel has done with our show is we explore a broader part of what’s going on in that stuff. Sometimes it connects in a big way. For instance with Winter Soldier, you’re seeing more hours of that dynamic, of suddenly realizing seeing people you’ve worked your whole life for are part of this evil organization trying to kill you, that personal betrayal we get to play out for hours more."

With rumors of a rift between Marvel's TV & film sections, this might not actually be a forgone conclusion. Still, it wouldn't be the first time Marvel/ABC have cross-promoted their weekly TV show with a new movie. As Gregg referenced above, it worked to great effect during Season 1, when the fallout from The Winter Soldier single-handedly got the show's narrative back on track.

Could Civil War have a similarly lasting effect? Sound off with your thoughts and theories below!

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 is currently airing Tuesdays, 9pm (ET) on ABC.

I find when the show is most connected to the MCU is when it's at its best.

They will probably drop the whole Inhumans tie-in due to the recent cancel of the movie.

How ironic that we were JUST talking about this.

As much as I like this show, I honestly don't want to see Coulson in the movies again. I'm sick of people thinking he needs to be the connection between everything. I swear if he shows up in the Defenders I will flip out.

I would rather see characters like Quake, Mockingbird, Talbot, etc make appearances in the movies.

Yet, Civil War will make zero mention of the Terrigen outbreak and such.

I'm all for the show having some ties to the film, references and the what not, but I'll be dammed if Coulson or May or Skye (I'm going to keep calling her that) actually show-up in the film in any shape or form. That wouldn't make any sense, they'd probably taint the scene with their subpar acting, and it'd just really make my skin crawl.

@InfiniteMonkey
Arrow is a really bad show, but the whole "he doesn't have a name" complaint should die out especially if you watched the season 4 premiere where he called himself the Green Arrow.

Just saying...

@Ramiel- What "Terrigen outbreak" is there for them to mention? Did you watch The Agents of Shield season 3 premier? At the end of the episode someone asks President Ellis (from Iron man 3) if the recent events of super powered individuals popping up are due to "the spread of a alien contagent". Ellis says that they are just rumors and that they do not know it for a fact. It is a more subtle situation. All the Avengers along with the general public know is that people are just coming out with powers all of a sudden. Had there would of been a Terrigen bomb in the season 2 finale then yes they would have a potential problem and explaining to do.

Can I just say how hilarious(pathetic) it was to look at that Inhumans thread and see people quickly asking for the cancellation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just because some probably wasted dude in a bar said the Inhumans movie had been scrapped because of the show? It makes it even funnier(more pathetic) when you realize the same people shouting "cancel the show!" are the ones who, normally, make statements and comment on how great or awesome the show may be...

The flip of a dime...

Director Coulson knows wussup! Let the CROSSOVER begin!!

Also does anybody remember last fall when the trailer for Avengers Age of Ultron was supposed to drop during Agents of Shield but HYDRA leaked it a week before! I'm more than positive that Marvel will be doing the same thing this year jus with better security.

Hail HYDRA

@Pasto- The ones saying that are probably the same ones who dropped the show during season 1. Funny thing is is that I don't think Agents of Shield will be going anywhere any time soon and there ain't shit the haters can do about it

"yeah great more pretending to be part of something when you clearly aren't ,next what you gonna pretend that you helped avengers..."
It's not pretending when they are a part of it and Coulson found the Hydra base for the Avengers. Nice try though.

Personally, I've always found it funny whenever Agents of SHIELD ties into one of the movies. It's always just them dealing with the fallout of whatever movie just came out in way that kinda ties into the movie, but not TOO much because we can't have the show interfere too much with the MCU. It's kinda like kids playing a game alongside the movies. They see one of the movies, and come up with their own story to go with it that doesn't affect the movies in return because they know the people behind them don't care about their game. Still, doesn't mean that the story itself can't be any good, as unimportant in the grand scheme of things as it may be. Also…

@DrDoom

Yup, especially when the article with the rumour begins by saying Black Panther has been pushed BACK, when it's actually been brought forward.

A blatant factual error in an article about a rumour that already makes no logical sense? Yea, I'll just go ahead and disregard the whole thing thanks

@InfiniteMonkey Put it back? The Inhumans were never gone. It's literally only a rumor posted by someone who says he heard it from his "sources" while at a bar. :/

I hate when people act like rumors are already fact.
