"[Marvel] very much believes in color blind casting," says J. August Richards. "You can read into that if you like," he continued. Two characters repeatedly brought up in discussions about Richards' character are Luke Cage and New Warrior member Rage. Cage is already ruled out according to one of the show's executive producers but talk of Rage has been gaining momentum. However, it looks like fans should expand their casting choices.

Despite all the chatter about resurrecting Buffy or Firefly, J. August Richards doesn't think there's a chance for the same to happen with Angel although he caveats that statement with the disclaimer that he's not the person to ask.

Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Trailer Breakdown

"Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films, as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson's team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage; Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot and martial artist; Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer; and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker, Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s first television series, is from executive producers Joss Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who co-wrote the pilot (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog). Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) also serve as executive producers. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television."

@Spiderpimp

Bruce Banner is only white by default, his race isn't a defining characteristic. That characters race has no effect on the story.

Black Panther's race and national origin are defining characteristics. It's a completely different situation.

Starting to think the new "Mighty" Power Man.

But my real hope is Wendell Vaughn with project Pegasus implanted tech.
DemonBowler
DemonBowler - 6/6/2013, 12:29 PM
I think it is Wendell Vaughn. SHIELD agent and power bands (the alien tech on his arms in the trailer) and expands the marvel intergalactic universe.

Damn I can't wait for stiltman, grizzly, and Dr. Bong to make an appearence. I like the wendell idea, but he would be hell on a budget if done right. We should think more low budget powersets like invulnerability, strenght, and non cgi need powers.

humm.... J August Richards character has enhanced strength, speed, durability and a wrist mounted devise. Also it is highly probable he is not playing a tradtional black character...so Mar-vell, maybe?

@SuperJagerNaut - My comment isn't about trolling and I am a fan of both Marvel and DC - it's about Marvel changing its characters backgrounds. If Marvel (or DC) really wants to do something significant about race, create some more major heroes from different racial backgrounds. I am pretty sure if there was a universe with superheroes in it that the powers would not just show up in the good ole' U. S. of A.

@rkshuttleworth 100% agree...changing race to met demographic pressure seems cheap. Its just the easy path, instead of actual creativity... :)

He's playing the character "Rage", i believe.

And what a farce -- Marvel believes in "color blind casting"? Lol, he is certainly on the dick ride with them.
HugeCapfan

Give him a Triangular shield and he's Battlestar (Not Battlestar Galactica), that one time partner of John Walker, Captain America, who is now the USAgent.

He worked for Silver Sable, then hurt his back during the Civil war fiasco, escaped that Negative zone prison, and that's where I lost track of him.
