Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

@BatmanRobinNightwing

Plenty of people are trashing them despite being marvel too.

For some reason, I'm going to reserve judgement until after I've actually watched it.

@batmanrobinnightwing not going to trash but state the obvious. Joss said repeatedly he never wanted to 'kill' Coulson. Marvel demanded it as part of the plot for the Avengers.

The entire series is going to be lame because of Coulson's apparent death in the Avengers? Somehow, I don't think every episode is going to be about Coulson's return from the "dead".

Most likely, this TV show WILL be successful. Even if some people don't like it already.

It's great because it's tied to the Marvel cinematic universe. That alone gives it a great boost with the general audience. Also, Joss Whedon is in charge. Like him or not, the man got plenty of experience with TV shows.

Also, do you really think that the general audience, not us comic book geeks, but the general audience, give a damn about if he died in The Avengers or not? People want entertainment, that's all it takes.

If they flesh out how Coulson has returned and make it part of main plot of season 1, then it will be awesome. If they explain it away in three sentences, then yeah, it will suck. The island mystery of Arrow is one of the best parts, and they are really giving time to have that part of the plot be fleshed out. Take my words to heart, Marvel! We all know you are reading these comments :P

Coulson is is a life decoy, this will tie in with Captain America TWS. Will come out in the season climax in an epic action scene where he gets in in the chest again and doesn't die this time because he isn't really alive. Then season 2 he'll embrace it and develop his tech to become the vision!!!! There you go haters that's the plot so you don't have to watch now.

Coulson's big old forehead is calling out for a nice little gem to spice it up ;).

P.S. Vin Diesel would be an awful vision but a kickass king pin in a new daredevil reboot!!

tv coulson is the LMD and real one is still dead? explains rumor why he doesnt know but his shield team does

real coulson went into armory and activated LMD and it got killed. real one is on show?

grandmaster or similar type being? with resurrection powers?

infinity formula?

anything is better than "its only a flesh wound"

@elevn59 like the idea of him of him activating a LMD and letting it take the killer hit. Still think the real one is day though and they'll have to develop as a charector so they'll be something unique about him. More than just a LDM. Joss will go big and run away with the idea of LDM. That's why i think he'll progress to The VIson! Will enjoy when he get reprogrammed and goes awall!

I think Coulson has always been a LMD. Or at least for years after the original died and he's not aware of his true nature.

I still find it comical that on a comic book fan site so many people have an issue that a character didn't actually die. It makes me wonder how many have actually read comics. :-p
NitPicker

@Ranger14

So many people fail to see the whole purpose of that scene. The purpose of Coulson's death scene was to build Nick Fury's character. Nick didn't lie about Coulson's death, he lied about the cards.

Nick Fury has been given the task of keeping the world safe from super powered humans, aliens, gods, etc. Nick is a normal human so he has to take advantage of every situation that he possibly can.

Normally when someone dies, you might want to take a moment of silence or say a few good words about them. However Nick Fury has to think to himself "How can I use this situation to my advantage". So he goes to Coulson's locker, gets his Cap America cards, puts some fake blood on them and throws them in Caps face.

Also, none of The Avengers trust Fury so why would lie about Coulson's death. As soon as they see him alive and well they will know that Fury lied and he will lose what little trust they have in him.

They should have just given him an ambiguous death but with strong implications that he died. Something a little above the anticlimactic "death" of Bucky.

Real Coulson or LMD it won't matter. @Priest is right the general (non-geek) audience won't care nearly enough to make this show fail. As long as they promote it correctly with all the Marvel Universe tie ins and maybe have the occasional cameo...people will watch. Either way I know I'm gonna.

Why does everyone have so much trouble believing that someone could survive being impaled through the chest. Search the Internet, there are several stories of people surviving much worse. And without what we can all imagine is very good medical care by an advanced government entity like Shield...

Trying to look foward to the show but it just looks so meh. There are no Avengers in the show this will hurt it as people will expect them to show up in some capacity which they of course wont do. I also hope the show doesn't have any plot effects on the films, keep them seperate. Coulson will probably be an LMD who doesn't know that he's an LMD.
