CLOAK & DAGGER Will Have A Panel At The Freeform Summit Tonight - Will We Finally See Some New Footage?

It looks like we're finally getting some new promotional material for Freeform's upcoming Cloak and Dagger TV series as part of their upcoming media event. Will we get an official trailer, perhaps?

Promotion for Cloak & Dagger has been dormant since the trailer's premiere in April 2017, after the show was picked up for a full season. With a target release of "Winter 2018", many fans have wondered when we might actually learn of the show's release.

Barring the leak of the first two episodes dubbed in Russian, no other follow up information on the show has come to light. Recently, Freeform announced they were hosting a major press event instead of participating in the TCA tours of this year (where we learned of Hulu renewing fellow Marvel show Runaways for a second season), consisting of four panels. Yesterday, they announced that one of these panels is for Cloak & Dagger.

The official press release reads as follows:

FROM COMICS TO SCREEN – CREATING “MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER”

It used to be that you would read a comic book and transport yourself to a place that you fantasized being a part of. Today’s television viewing has created long-lasting opportunities for those fantasies to become real, with fan-favorite comic book properties that we grew up with becoming mainstream, appointment entertainment. Stories that we know and love are now brought to our many screens, but how do you ensure that the monumental characters are accurately portrayed? How do you take those characters that were created over 20 years ago and translate their intimate journeys for today’s viewer, when those characters were created in a different social landscape? And are those journeys necessarily so different now than they were then? Join the producing team behind “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” and series stars for a discussion about creating “Cloak” aka “Tandy Bowen” and “Dagger” aka “Tyrone Johnson” – a pair of young adults navigating a world of complexity, separating from parents, creating relationships and forming their own identities. While many of these challenges sound familiar, our young heroes have newly discovered superpowers that only make their journeys more complicated…

“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved comic characters and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Moderated by Alicia Lutes, Managing Editor, @Nerdist and Host, #Fangirling Panel participants will include:
Jeph Loeb (EP, Marvel’s Head of Television)
Gina Prince-Bythewood (Director, “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger”)
Olivia Holt (“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger”)
Aubrey Joseph (“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger”)
Joe Pokaski (EP, “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger”)

Presumably, this panel will include an actual release date for the series, and possibly a new trailer as well.

UPDATE: The panel will start at 8PM EST.

This event may also lead to new information about the formerly-Freeform bound New Warriors adaptation, the cast and showrunner of which recently were photographed together seemingly celebrating something (at least if showrunner Kevin Biegel's subsequent tweets about getting donuts with the cast at 2 AM are any indication), leading some fans to speculate that the show may have finally found a new home. Perhaps someone will ask TV head honcho Jeph Loeb about it? We'll just have to wait and see to find out.

Please be better than Runaways. That show was promising yet is so lame.

@RealSpiderMan - Agreed. I just could not get into Runaways. I have up on the show, it was so boring for me.

@RealSpiderMan - how old are you? And runaways was a huge hit exspically teen and lgbt community big time

@Cedrichouse94 - So just cause a couple of gay people and teens like it that means every gay person and teen has to like it?

@Silencer713 - isn't say that, and I said teens because pretty sure half people here are 30 to 40s so these type shows prob not for them.

@Cedrichouse94 - Is it for people in their 20's?
Did you like the show?

I had forgotten about this. First trailer was just alright really. I was pleasantly surprised by Runaways so I'm expecting that same kind of quality.

You know it would be really cool and kinda funny if the Runaways and Cloak & Dagger meet Spider-Man and he tries to act all above them (a showing them the ropes thing) because he's worked with the Avengers

Hoping this crosses over with Runaways or SHIELD at some point. It is sad that the shows and movies don't connect, but it is down right irritating that the Marvel shows don't connect more

HeavyMetal4Life - 1/18/2018, 8:38 AM
@Armageddon26 - Well, the shows don't need to crossover. Obviously the Netflix shows do, but the rest don't have to. Runaways in reality doesn't really fit into the type of show that SHIELD is, and vice versa. SHIELD is still the glue of the MCU though, and it did actually have a small easter egg for Luke Cage last season, as the Judas bullet made an appearance in a pretty cool way.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Too bad the Judas Bullet actually broke timeline a little, and I also know the Dogs of Hell and WHIH have made various appearances in each show. I'm not saying they have to, as they obviously are working well, but at least some more direct references to each other would be nice. Cloak and Dagger crossing paths with the Runaways or Quake crossing either of their paths would be cool

@Armageddon26 - Forgot about the Dogs of Hell and WHIH!

How did the Judas Bullet break timeline?
Armageddon26
Armageddon26 - 1/18/2018, 8:18 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Nevermind, I was wrong on that one, I think the episode broke timeline for a different reason (which I cannot for the life of me remember).
WHIH I think, as of right now, is the Runaways only MCU connection, which is cool, but I'm still hoping for some more little on

"a discussion about creating “Cloak” aka “Tandy Bowen” and “Dagger” aka “Tyrone Johnson” "

They got their names crossed in the press release.

Spock0Clock - 1/18/2018, 10:05 AM
@Dunejedi - In their defense, Tandy can be a boy's name, and Tyrone was the most popular girl's name of 2011...
