Werewolf By Night IS Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe According To Kevin Smith

There have been rumblings about Werewolf by Night's MCU debut since 2019, but Kevin Smith has revealed that he was told he couldn't use the character in a Marvel Television series due to big screen plans.

A little while ago, we learned that Marvel Studios might have plans to introduce Werewolf by Night in Moon Knight, and while that's yet to be confirmed, it does appear that there are plans for the character.

Talking on the FatMan Beyond podcast (via ComicBook.com), filmmaker Kevin Smith spoke about working with the now-defunct Marvel Television on a Howard the Duck series. That show was set to be part of an entire animated slate of projects coming to Hulu, but when Marvel Studios took charge of all MCU content coming to the small screen, most of them were scaled back and ultimately scrapped.

Smith mentioned that he was looking to included Werewolf by Night in the show, but was told by former Marvel Television President Jeph Loeb that he was off-limits due to Marvel Studios' plans.

"I reached out to Walter Flanagan from Comic Book Men and told him I'm gonna take a stab at all the f***ing 70s characters," he explained. "Walt was giving suggestions and Werewolf By Night was absolutely on the list. In my head, as I started building my season, I was like, 'Alright. Episode 5. Werewolf by Night.' The idea of our story was that Howard was trapped here and he was trying to get pages of the Darkhold, which would allow him to go back."

"There's Howard as I'm laying it out and then I go into Jeph and told him what I wanted to do, and that's when they said 'You can't use Werewolf by Night,' and I asked why. They said the movie division was using him."

Seeing as Marvel Studios is about to introduce vampires in Blade, we shouldn't be surprised that a werewolf is also about to debut. First introduced in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972, Werewolf by Night has a storied history in the Marvel Universe and Moon Knight was actually introduced in the pages of Werewolf by Night #32

With that in mind, Moon Knight could be the show to keep an eye on for the hero's MCU debut.

I could see Werewolf By Night as a member of The Midnight Sons. Also, I propose a Latin actor to play Jack Russell. Maybe Diego Luna.

@Repian - that cover and that picture put together make me believe that could be a good choice

I can’t believe how many characters Marvel Studios has gotten me to dive into- and it sounds like this is going to be another one.

@WeaponXCII - I have the same with Shang-Chi and Eternals, but I'm not diving into them. Instead I wanna see what Marvel does with a project I don't have prior knowledge from (and my expectations are very different as a result)

@bkmeijer - That's been my experience with a lot of these properties, including Shang-Chi and Eternals- both of which I know very little about, and so far it's served me well.

@WeaponXCII - for me we've reached that point with Shang-Chi for the first time, so I'm hoping going in blind is gonna serve me well too

Off-Topic:
Yesterway I've watched his first movie Clerks for the first time, it was really good, then I've watched Jay and Silent Bob Reebot, it was so bad, the first Jay and Silent Bob movie was funny

@WaffeX - Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was good if you've followed all of the Kevin Smith movies. Reboot kind of wraps up their entire film universe as it includes pretty much everything from Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Mallrats.

@CorndogBurglar - I know, I've watched all of his movies and most of his movies are funny, specially Jay and Silent Bob, Clerks, Clerks 2,Dogma and Mallrats

@CorndogBurglar - btw I'm a fan of Kevin Smith, so I get all the references in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, I was disappointed with this movie, I hope Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 are better

I believe that Kevin Smith mentioned that the conversation took place 2 years ago. But that makes me think that there's a much bigger chance that Werewolf By Night will show up somewhere in Blade.

@Blackstradamus - I wouldn't expect that. Blade is vampires and his first movie will almost certainly focus on that. I would expect Werewolf by Night to show up in Moon Knight. There's so much precedent there, especially with rumors that Moon Knight will focus on supernatural things. And Moon Knight first appeared in a Werewolf by Night comic.

Please be true. I've been wanting Werewolf By Night for some time.

I don't know Werewolf by Night but I do have a Jack Russell, who is the best doggo in the world. So I don't know how seriously I can take this guy. 😂
