MS. MARVEL Directors Share Their Take On What Happened To Kamala Khan And Her Family During The Blip

Ms. Marvel directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi have weighed in with their take on whether Kamala Khan or any members of her family were among those wiped out by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War...

In the closing few moments of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos used the power of the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe. There was nothing Earth's Mightiest Heroes could do, and it wasn't until Ant-Man emerged from the Quantum Realm five years later that they were able to undo the damage caused by the Mad Titan.

While Marvel Studios has since addressed The Blip, there are only a handful of new characters (Monica Rambeau and Yelena Belova, for example) whose status during that time has been tackled in a meaningful way.

In Ms. Marvel, we're left with no indications whatsoever that the Khan family was negatively affected by what happened. However, directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi have now shared their thoughts on the possibility during a recent interview with The Direct

"Well, I would assume that, seeing how the family dynamic is with them, I have a feeling that none of them got snapped," the duo explained. "But whenever we ask Kevin about, 'What about The Snap or The Blip? Do we reference it at all?' He would say, 'Don’t worry about it. Focus on the story, focus just on that, don’t ask too many questions about other movies, other shows and all that.'"

"That was sort of his mantra for Ms. Marvel," they concluded.

It's now been three years since Avengers: Endgame was released, and while it is a shame that this five-year period has been glossed over, making it a talking point in every TV show and movie could become tedious. It would also force storytellers like Fallah and El Arbi to zero in on the minutia of what happened to every member of Kamala's family during The Blip rather than focusing on the present.

We're going to take this as an answer, though, and it does make sense given what we saw from that Khan family dynamic.

All six episodes of Ms. Marvel are now streaming on Disney+.

Yeah, I don't need to know what happened to everyone during the Blip. For instance, whenever the F4 get introduced, I don't need a backstory on which of them got snapped, if any lol.

The snap was a very serious and traumatic incident worldwide.
While I don’t expect them to address every incident of the snap I find that Feige is being lazy by not adjusting for the repercussions of it at all in a lot of these shows and movies.

Example: Kamala and her family go to Pakistan and Karachi (or whatever city they visited) was teeming with people, and functioning like everything was normal. Now I don’t expect too much but governments collapsed because of the snap.
In Endgame they had tons of boats anchored off of Liberty Island and streets in disrepair with mountains of trash. It was very dystopian.

And as the world was working to put itself together again after five years, and still had not, you thrust another 4 Billion people and more animals and insects back into the ecosystem.

It has only been three years since Endgame was released so it would be 2028 now and the world would still be recovering.
And with new people returning there could also be those who were in power jockeying for power so there may also be wars or battles.

To ignore all of that is not only lazy but irresponsible to the world Feige created.

And yes I know the snap has been touched on in some shows but the only one to show chaos of it was Wandavision when Monica Rambeau reappeared in the hospital.
The next best was Hawkeye when Yelena reappeared in the bathroom.

The biggest plot convenience in any movie/show was when Peter Parker returned to school in Endgame and none of his friends, not one was snapped away. They only had one kid in the school that they focused on briefly in No Way Home, that Asian kid.

Just a big missed opportunity to do some great things and tell some very interesting stories.

@SpaceParanoids - Wasn’t it specified that all of Peter’s supporting cast was snapped? The only kid he hung out with that wasn’t was Brad, which is why he’d suddenly gotten old enough to be a rival for MJ.

@OmegaBlack13 - Yeah sorry, that’s what I meant. They conveniently all were snapped.

@SpaceParanoids - The falcon and winter soldier dealt with alot of fallout from the world government side of the snap and blip. it was a huge motivation for the villains of the show as they felt the world was better off before everyone came back.

@SpaceParanoids - Ah gotcha. And I mean if chances are literally 50/50 I don't think it's that crazy. That was, like, 5 kids and his aunt lol it's not like we got confirmation that every kid on the decathlon team and Betty's news partner also went away.

@supermanrex - True. It’s too bad that show was terrible.

@OmegaBlack13 - 50/50 is a pretty big chance though. I think Marvel missed out on some great opportunities using those 5 years.

1) If they had the snap planned in advance they could have introduced a young red head, blue eyes girl who was maybe 11 or 12 prior to the snap, then after five years Peter returns and he meets a grow up 17-year-old Mary Jane Watson.

2) They could have shown that Ned didn’t snap and Peter returns to him all in shape. Perfect set up for his eventual transition into Hobgoblin.

3) If May didn’t snap she could have married to someone.
And imagine if she happened to marry their universes Harry Osborne who she met at a grief counseling session that he was hosting at one of his hotels or buildings.

I think they just missed some great opportunities and making everyone snap away was just too convenient.

@SpaceParanoids - Feige did said that he doesnt want the snap to be the new Battle of New York and wants to move on from it going into Phase 4, that is why is Feige is not adjusting it reprecussions.

@eagc1995 - I know you just can’t ignore the repercussions of something so monumental.
It would be like ignoring the holocaust or 9-11.
Both events changed the world as we know it and they weren’t a fraction of the magnitude of the snap.

@SpaceParanoids - I don’t love any of those ideas tbh. I think what they went with was fine. And if he becomes Hobgoblin, Ned doesn’t need to be in shape anyway, he’s got a strength formula lol

The Snap was such an impactful event, it needed more attention than it got. Just like the Celestial emerging from the Earth's core it should've had immense consequences on humanity.

@Kyos - they have mentioned it with fleshed or scenes in FFH, eternals, Hawkeye and wandavision - do we need more?

I don’t think that any amount of discussing the blip at this point is “realistically” too much because the entire world would still be very focused on it, but I get how it could get annoying to have to discuss it with every single new project. I think Ms Marvel would’ve been a particularly interesting show to touch on it because it could’ve done so from a religious perspective we wouldn’t normally get, but ah well.

i think its easier than these producers and directors think it is to reference past events. it could have easily been a comment in conversation that a cousin or something is still adjusting to life post blip and giving us that oooh ah ah cool tie in feeling. what i am really hating right now is no one is referring to that damn giant celestial sitting in the ocean now. i haven't seen anyone outside of eternals talk about it.

@supermanrex - It depends when does Eternals take place. Because if it takes place last then everything still lines up

I think Feige's philosophy is a good one. It has been three years since Endgame for us (and probably the same amount of the time has passed within the MCU), so lingering too much on that just takes away from the present in my opinion.

Not once did I think with any project since Hawkeye about the Blip, so I think it may have even distracted from the plot in my opinion.
