THE CLONE WARS Star Matt Lanter Says He Will Return As Anakin Skywalker In Future STAR WARS Project

Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, while he's also set to return as Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+. However, it was Matt Lanter who voiced the Jedi Knight in The Clone Wars animated series.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Lanter confirmed that he's set to return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away as Anakin.

"There's some new Lucasfilm Animation going on," he teased. "I've been a part of some things I can't talk about yet. You'll see Anakin again. I never quite put Anakin down, whether I'm doing a video game or something new for Lucasfilm Animation."

So, a return to the Star Wars Universe is definitely on the cards for Lanter, and some flashbacks in The Bad Batch seem likely (we've not fully explored what that team's place was in the Clone Wars).

In the same interview, Lanter also reflected on getting to end The Clone Wars on Disney+ last year.

"[The series finale] didn't come as much of a shock as that first time because that first time we felt like we didn't get to finish," the actor says. "Now, we properly got to finish. We got to send off the show in an emotional way in the way that Dave wanted to send it off. I actually think it was really cool that it premiered when everyone's spirits were down [because of the pandemic]. For Star Wars fans, it was exciting to have something new. I think it lifted everyone up a bit."

Lanter did a great job as Anakin, and for many fans, his take on the character is the definitive one. He made a brief cameo in The Mandalorian's first season as a New Republic Soldier, and most recently lent his voice to Skywalker in Disney+'s The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special

Where do you think we'll see Lanter's Anakin Skywalker return?

Maybe it's just me, bit I'd like to see a whole show combining Revenge of the Sith, Siege of Mandalore, and the rest of the Outer Rim sieges (with the animated shows casts).

I'm guessing Bad Batch... but also I've had a theory and this might lend to it.

Its my theory were getting a newish take on Vader in the Obi-Wan show, one that's slightly more Anikin. They cast Hayden, and I can't believe it's to keep him under a mask and to have him do his best James Earl Jones. And unless the show has a massive amount of flash backs every episode to justify announcing bringing Hayden back as a main cast member, I think we're gonna see maybe a short period of time where Vader maybe didn't want to use the armor or... not the helmet.... or something.

Also, a new style for Vader, even if "he only had that look briefly" for the show and decided to armor back up or.... idk... but we all know how much Star Wars likes Toys... and a new Vader design.... idk...

And if they decide to, after the Obi-Wan show, flesh out this small period of time with another animated show, that could be what Lanters alluding to.

Idk, it's likely just Bad Batch.

To me he is the superior Anakin. Clone Wars did such a good job basically rewriting his character from scratch (while not messing with continuity) to be what Anakin should have been as a character

Give me an Early Years Vader show, based of the current comics! Animated Doctor Aphra, Triple-Zero & BeeZee would be awesome!

I get the feeling it's something other than Bad Batch. That's the most obvious option, so if he's trying to keep that a secret, he wouldn't say anything. There's gotta be some unannounced project. How substantial it is is really the question.

My dream project would be the adventures of Luke and the OT crew post-RotJ. It could organically pull together so many parts of the franchise. OT characters, comic characters, Rebels characters, Ahsoka, Manadlorian characters, video game characters. And it would make sense for force ghost Anakin to make occasional appearances to interact with Luke, Leia, and Ahsoka.
