VIDEO GAMES: All Evidence Pointing To A New ARKHAM GAME

Yesterday, Kevin Conroy inadvertently confirmed a new Batman game on Twitter (Again) by stating that he can't talk about it. It's time to revisit all the tiny drops of information and leaks we know about the next game!

I thought it would be a good idea to go consolidate and go over all the info we know about the next Arkham game in one place. Let's begin!

Kevin Conroy Is Batman

Yesterday On Twitter, Kevin Conroy inadvertently confirmed a new Batman game again by stating that he can't talk about it.

However, this isn't the first time he has accidentally revealed the game either. In May 2013, at the Dallas Comic-Con, Conroy confused the announcement of Arkham Origins with an Arkham project he was working on. Thankfully, for the studios sake, he didn't actually reveal any details other than that it was being being developed.

From 00:43 to 1:45

"I can talk about it now, we've been working for about 9-10 months on the next Arkham. We all signed these contracts, the studio likes to completely control the roll out of any product. So it's now been announced and it's an unbelievable game. I still can't say anything about the game, but it's just amazing, a huge cast and big story. It took almost a year to write and put together."

Later Conroy clarified that he wasn't talking about Arkham Origins but a new Arkham game coming out later, this twitter post was later removed but luckily got screenshotted (See Below).

Assault on Arkham?

An interesting point made was that Conroy had actually confused the game with Assault On Arkham, a new DCUA being made for release later this year. However, it seems that following yesterday's twitter post, and Conroys repeated use of the word "game" he definitely knows what he's talking about!

I should also add that Troy Baker is listed as voicing the Joker in AOA on IMDB, does this suggest that Mark Hamill is officially done with the Joker and not just because he (SPOILERS) died at the end of Arkham City?

What we know so far:

- A new Arkham game is DEFINITELY in development
- It has been in development for at least 18 months now
- Troy Baker may be the permanent new Joker voice of the Arkham series

A side note/theory before continuing: If we see the Joker again in the next game, could an explanation for Baker's voice be that he was saved by the Lazarus pit and made young again? Hmm!

Domain Registrations

Moving on, the next piece of evidence I'd like to address is the Warner Bros. Domain name registrations following below:

arkhamuniverse.com (Arkham Universe)
batmanarkahmuniverse.com (Batman Arkham Universe)
batmanarkhamarises.com (Batman Arkham Arises)
batmanarkhambegins.com (Batman Arkham Begins)
batmanarkhamdarkknight.com (Batman Arkham Dark Knight)
batmanarkhamknight.com (Batman Arkham Knight)
batmanarkhamlegend.com (Batman Arkham Legend)
batmanarkhamlegends.com (Batman Arkham Legends)
batmanarkhamnight.com (Batman Arkham Night)
batmanarkhamorigins.com (Batman Arkham Origins)
batmanarkhamstories.com (Batman Arkham Stories)
darkknightarkham.com (Dark Knight Arkham)
dcarkhamuniverse.com (DC Arkham Universe)
dcarkhamverse.com (DC Arkhamverse)
thearkhamuniverse.com (The Arkham Universe)

(Credit: Fusible)

Originally, the legitimacy of these domains were weak and as we all know, a lot end up being bogus and only registered to prevent others from taking them. However, there is one title in there that makes it highly believable that the next Arkham title is in there as well. Which one? Well Arkham Origins of course! The others could all end up being duds, but there have been no new reports of Warner Bros. registering any new name titles. These registrations also coincide close to the ten month mark of the games development cycle. By then, a name or selection of names would have been decided at that stage. The title that stands out to most people and myself is Arkham Knight, however it could be any one of them! Arkham Universe could suggest Justice League interactions and various cameos.

Who is developing the next Arkham game?

Isn't it obvious? Rocksteady has been dead silent for almost a year now, and hasn't released a game since Arkham City back in 2011. Warner Bros. also bought a large amount of shares in the company so that's got to say something! Kevin Conroy has also lead the voice in Rocksteady's Batman games as well, further adding to the likeliness of it being developed by them. Who else could actually develop an Arkham title with the amount of skill and knowledge in Batman's world equal to Rocksteady? There isn't anyone. It also coincides with the development cycle Conroy said. There is also no way Warner Bros Montreal have touched it, they only just learnt how to make a Batman game. I personally don't believe Rocksteady would let anyone touch their Arkham continuity and develop a sequel other than themselves. This is why I believe Arkham Origins was a prequel and was only there for a quick cash in due to the large development cycle of Arkham 4. I should also add that job listings for Rocksteady have mentioned "A triple-A third-person action-adventure game” being made. Fuel to the fire!

When will we hear official news about it?

Next month most likely! A few days ago, an IGN writer was invited as well as other press apparently into Rocksteady studios to see an unannounced title.

The twitter post was also taken down, however the writer revealed he could talk about what he saw in a month. This means it's highly likely we'll get an official announcement before then!

Gameinformer has always been the first place to get new details for Batman games aswell, and having the next Arkham game on the cover of next months issue is highly likely!

What platforms will this be released on is currently unknown, however, I wouldn't place my bets on it being a 360/PS3 title. I think Rocksteady's ambition will most likely be next gen only!

That's all folks! What do you guys hope to see in the next Batman game and what are your thoughts on all this?

I apologise if my article writing is poor or in the wrong category, I don't post often but I love the Batman games so I thought I might throw this together for everyone :)

If I've missed something, please tell me and I'll update the article (If I'm allowed to do that? haha)

Cheers!

Yeah I think Hamill is done with the Joker, sad but Troy Baker does a fine job and he is one of the best voice actors in the business these days.

@Havoc9987 Okay awesome, good to hear! Yes I know, it's been killing me! Agreed on Baker, but I will miss Hamill's Joker :(

@Manhunter212, I personally am really hoping for an epic send off by Rocksteady to finish their Arkham trilogy. Arkham City felt like The Empire Strikes Back haha, I need ROTJ!

After that, I hope WBM continues their Arkham prequel titles (Oh god, the implications LOL!) so there's always some new Batman stories to come to. Meanwhile, Rocksteady can start working on a Justice League/other DC hero character game. The fact that they got so much detail and density packed into the Arkham franchise makes me drool over what they could do with the rest of the DC universe.

Give me a free-roaming Batman game where I can drive around in the Batmobile and visit the Batcave.

Do a long story mode(20-30 hours) with a bunch of side missions thrown in. And add online two player co-op missions where one player is Batman, and the other player could be Robin, Nightwing, Batwoman, Red Robin, Catwoman, or Batgirl.

That is my idea of the perfect Batman game.

@mgeoff88: Sounds exhausting. Then again, if it were to be Spider-Man, I wouldn't have an issue. I really do upset myself sometimes haha

On the new Batman game, I want the next one to be a different beast. I think Arkham is perfect as a trilogy and I don't think a fourth is necessary as far as the Arkham games go.

Batmobile is a MUST. The one in Asylum looked awesome and it would be cool to have driving or Batwing levels.

They should keep the multiplayer from Origins. Patch it and improve it but keep the same gameplay

I don't understand what was so "mediocre" about Origins, that game was exciting! Sure it wasn't as good as City or Asylum, but that was a damn good game.

There should be a Flash game with the gameplay similar to the Arkham games. The control's could work too

Square: Punch
Tap X: Evade
Holding X: Super Speed
Circle: Stun move
Triangle: Counter (but is also super fast)
L2: Slow motion mode (instead of X-Ray mode, using L2 to see where everyone is, you can take them out but you have a time limit)
R2: Sonic boom (while running, drains your health slowly, but you can zip across the entire map and go faster than the speed of sound)
L1: quantum tunneling
R1: Jump from ledge to ledge when close enough

Flash Vs. Reverse Flash you use your super speed racing around in the city while at the same time finding a way to counter him, but you're health goes down as you use up your super speed. Can't use slow motion mode since he moves just as fast as you. Similar to the boss battle of Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

I don't consider Origins to be a part of the Arkham trilogy. Means I require a 4th Arkham title developed by rocksteady or there will be no Arkham trilogy for me. Origins seems to be a nice game overall but I only look at it as an informative prequel that isn't part of the Arkham trilogy (well it shares the same name but I could live without it).

On the other hand, give me a DC or Superman game already. I want to see what rocksteady could do with an open world, flight & super-strength combat Superman game.

If they make another batman game, they really should include another hero like green arrow to cameo and be playable in challenge maps....heck we need a character with powers too so we can officially say that all the heros exist in this universe.

(Potential Spoilers from previous Arkham Games)

Villains:

-Hush (Remember he's now sporting ole Bruce's face, did Batman really "catch him tomorrow?")

-Azrael (Jean Paul Valley, if you ever read the nightfall series you'd see just how twisted he takes over the mantle of the bat and who could forget about that wicked costume?)

-Man-Bat (We haven't had him in over 3 games)

-Great White Shark (Was hinted at within the first Arkham game in the corpse room)

-Scarecrow (All of those hints leading to his return? The mask, messages, and the stock of roaches in the docks)

-Red-Hood (Would be pretty neat to see bats going against his one of his pupils)

-Black Mask (he escaped in Origins)

-Killer Croc (I think we all deserve a modern Killer Croc vs. Batman showdown without the aid of boardwalks)

-Clayface (Remember he fell in Lazarus pit at the end of Arkham City so how has that changed him?)

-Suicide Squad (Arkham Origins left a cliffhanger hinting towards the potential villainous future of one of its sequels)

Heroes:

-Batman

-Nightwing

-Huntress

-Robin

Setting:

-Gotham City (Nuff Said)

-Please give us a breathing Gotham city! I'm not saying let us walk straight into people on the streets of Gotham like GTA but at least let them have a fear reaction when we drop out of anywhere....SOMETHING!! lol

-Don't let us be limited to one location like Arkham City or Origins. Give us more room to explore in Gotham, sewers, abandoned buildings, Wayne Industries, Mansion/Batcave

Fighting:

New combat and moves if course
New combat

For people clamoring to drive around in the Batmobile, they'd have to figure a way out to no have the game turn into Grand Theft Auto: Batman Edition.

I definitely am ready for a real Arkham sequel. I liked origins, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first too. There were too many bugs, the controls weren't as fluid, and the replay factor was much lower. WB Montreal did good enough, but they obviously can't match Rocksteady when it comes to making an amazing Batman game. Arkham City left a lot of things in the game to foreshadow a true Arkham sequel, and the wati for one has been killing me. After that, a Batman Beyond game would be pretty epic, I hope they explore that option one time, as well as maybe a Batman Beyond Movie after the Batfleck trilogy that is sure to follow Batman/Superman and Justice League.

I don't want Troy to "replace" Mark Hamill because a mark Hamill is the only person who can do Joker's older voice let alone the modern joker period. Only way I'd be cool with it is if Joker actually lived from some of that Lazarus liquid and it de-aged him making him younger again and also an even more living hell for batman. Other than that, I'm not really that desperate to have joker appear where another actor has to replace him. If they can't find anything majorly creative to do with the Joker let him stay dead, or have another sequel to origins debut where Troy has a reason for returning.

They really need a batman/justice League game. Batman will obviously be front and center. Then have other members of the league be playable characters. Then w/ the popularity of those characters on the rise they can release other titles w/ other justice League members front and center.

WB wants to make a justice League franchise? Best way to build a demand for that is through well made video games, TV shows, and animated movies that are centered on other league members.
