THE NEW MUTANTS Director Josh Boone Shares Storyboards As A New BTS Image Of The Team Is Revealed

Our first look at some footage from The New Mutants seemed to go down pretty well with most fans (despite the lack of powers and costumes), and now we have some new images from the X-Men spinoff for you guys.

Director Josh Boone has shared three separate storyboard shots from the trailer, featuring artist's depictions of Rahne (Maisie Williams) and Illyana (Anya Taylor-Joy), and we also have a new behind-the-scenes shot of the full cast.

Some were a little disappointed that we didn't get to see any of these guys use their abilities in the teaser (well, aside from Mirage who is most likely manifesting the horrors around them), but there's plenty of time for that.

Check out the shots below, and let us know what you think in the usual place.

Very excited for this. The trailer was very tense and I loved it!

I’m really excited to see something new from the superhero genre. Fox isn’t afraid to take risks.

@The72nd - Blade really did the horror superhero film first.

People forget

@BlackBeltJones - Yes but not the scariest... remember George Clooney's Batman?

@BlackBeltJones - That was less horror, and more action with horror elements. Let's be honest about that.

@ThaIllest89 - I feel ya. I think it still had enough horror elmeets to qualify as a superhero film that dabbled in horror early enough to pave a way for something like New Mutants.

@BlackBeltJones - Ehhhh, if you say so. In my eyes, all it ushered in was the "Underworld" and Resident Evil" like style of slick visuals, stylized action, and horror-elements. Those films felt like a response to "Blade". Now, Blade def has horror elements in it, but I just don't think stylistically it qualifies as such. It always seemed like more of an action film, because it is.

@BlackBeltJones - C'mon..just because there were vampires, doesn't make it horror

The movie looks okay, and I reeeeaaallly don't wanna rain on anyone's parade, but...

It's starting to seem like people will eat up anything in pop culture right now if the idea of it is good -- while the execution just needs to be serviceable. Like, I highly doubt that casual moviegoers think there's anything special about this movie from the trailer, as it looks like it could literally be called "The Cliche Horror Movie". And that isn't necessarily a good or bad thing.

But after I saw the trailer, I said to myself: ehh, that was okay I guess, but I bet money that comic book fans will act like it's the second coming of Jesus because the idea of it is great and the execution is serviceable. And I was absolutely right.

Now, don't get me wrong; there's nothing bad about praising a good idea, but it seems weird to praise the serviceable execution of that idea because of the idea alone. If that makes any sense. For example; I don't know if many people here watched Eminem's BET cypher going against Trump, but everyone was acting like the rap was the greatest thing since Nas' Illmatic because the idea of a white superstar using their platform to speak up on the injustices of minorities was fantastic, even though the rap itself was...okay. And this isn't the only example -- it seems like people have become content with content in pop culture.

Anyway, the trailer was okay; not good or bad, but the comic book fans are overhyping it only because of the idea. Look, I get it's a fresh take on the CBM genre, but don't confuse the execution with the idea -- because they aren't the same thing. With that being said, I like that mainstream horror is being revitalized with Stranger Things, then IT, and now this movie, while meshing with the current CBM boom.

ALSO: I don't think people realize how important storyboards are lol. Imagine how convenient it is to have an exact guideline from the script to the screen, knowing exactly what shot you want before you even shoot. I know it sounds basic, but it goes right over most people's heads. Just wanted to say that.
