5 Ways 20th Century Fox Has Already Spoiled Pretty Much The Entire Plot Of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
Things aren't looking good for X-Men: Apocalypse after the mixed reviews, but if you're still hoping to be surprised by the movie, you'll be disappointed to learn that Fox has already ruined the entire thing.
The critical and commercial response aside though, and that comment above got me thinking; has 20th Century Fox really spoiled the entire movie? Well, after combing through all of the trailers, TV spots, featurettes, and magazine features, it turns out that they have! In fact, it's surprisingly easy to piece together the movie's entire plot and the fates of several key characters. Oh, and the ending too.
The last time a comic book movie spoiled so much in the trailers in a bid to put butts in theater seats, we ended up with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Will X-Men: Apocalypse be just as bad? Time will tell, but what you'll find here is a breakdown of all the ways they've ruined the movie over the past year.
5. Magneto Becomes A Hero
One thing that's pretty obvious though it that we won't see the bald Professor X until the very end of the movie, and that means the conversation which takes place above between him and a rather chilled out looking Magneto also comes from the final act. So, what does this mean? Well, it's pretty obvious that Erik turns his back on his role as a Horsemen and patches things up with his old friend, and looking at them here, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up running the X-Men with Charles and Raven.
That's probably the best option too, especially as Magneto is played out as a villain and we've been teased with him assembling a Brotherhood of Evil Mutants - only for it not to happen - too many times.
4. Angel And Psylocke Die...Or Stay Bad
That's evident from the fact that they're nowhere to be seen in that group shot at the end, and while it's possible that they'll just decline to join the heroic team of mutants (something which makes sense more for Psylocke than it does Archangel), chances are we should expect one or both of these fan-favourite characters to either die or remain villains for a possible reappearance somewhere down the line.
Either way, fans going into X-Men: Apocalypse hoping to see these two get a chance to shine and embrace their roles from the comic books are likely to be sorely disappointed, something fans of this franchise should probably be used to by now!
3. Apocalypse Destroys The X-Mansion
However, even worse than that is the fact that improved CGI in the recent trailers has confirmed that Apocalypse is the one responsible, leaving no mystery in regards to how or why this happens. In fact, looking at the footage shown off so far and what we've learned in magazine features, it's easy to piece together the fact that En Sabah Nur kidnaps Charles, destroys his home, defeats the X-Men, and that then they're kidnapped by William Stryker.
To give away such a massive chunk of the movie so carelessly is a shame, and this is now one less surprise to look forward to.
2. X-Men Assemble
Bryan Singer mentioned a long time ago that one of the trailers would basically spoil X-Men: Apocalypse's final scene, and well, here we are! When you look at movies like Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it becomes apparent that this franchise is somewhat out of date when it comes to how superheroes should look (the bland black leather makes a roaring return here), but if Singer wanted to put the heroes in faithful comic book costumes, he should have done it earlier on in the movie, not right at the very end and not in the trailer as if to attempt to remind people that, yes, this really is a superhero movie.
The fact that they've release images like the one above is mind-blowing, as is the fact that they'd spoil the fact that Storm ends up joining the team (there was admittedly always a good chance of that, but they've now robbed her story arc of any sort of dramatic stakes). This is by far one of Fox's most moronic decisions to date.
1. Wolverine Is Weapon X
However, clearly unsure that they can sell the movie based on the X-Men alone, his cameo has now been spoiled, something worsened by Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg in interviews for the movie where they've essentially spelled out the fact that this scene will feature the Weapon X version of Wolverine.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this violent sequence is going to be great, but confirming the character's cameo in that final trailer feels like a desperation move and I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see even more of him in upcoming TV spots, especially if X-Men: Apocalypse's tracking takes a hit due to those tepid reviews which have been doing the rounds.
