Bryan Singer Teases X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Deleted Scenes; Reveals There Will Be No Alternate Cut
In a new interview, director Bryan Singer confirmed that there won't be an extended cut of X-Men: Apocalypse. He then offered a few details on a handful of deleted scenes, which include more Jubilee!
It's been exactly 2 years, 5 months, and 20 days since director Bryan Singer officially announced X-Men: Apocalypse as the follow-up to his critically acclaimed blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past and the day we've all been waiting for is finally here!
With previews set to being at 7 PM tonight, Fandango has released another excerpt from their lengthy chat with Singer where the director teases some of the additional content we'll see on the Blu-ray/DVD release later this year, namely the deleted scenes. He starts out by assuring fans that while there will be plenty of deleted scenes to enjoy, there won't be any sort of alternate or extended director's cut this time around: "There will be nothing like the Rogue Cut or anything like that. I'm not a big fan of director's cuts or extended editions, I never have been. In the case of Apocalypse, I removed what would be considered a conventional amount from the movie to protect what we call the collective experience of the feature theatrically. How it feels pace wise and movement wise."
As for which scenes, we'll actually get to see, Singer teased an extended mall sequence with Scott, Jean, Kurt, and Jubilee that'll pay homage to a classic Robin Williams film: "There was also a significant moment that sadly I had to cut. When they’re moving through the mall and Nightcrawler remarks about the other people that “they don’t fear us.” And he thinks the mall is this paradise, and that was my homage to Moscow on the Hudson, when Robin Williams came over to America during the height of the Cold War and saw a Bloomingdales and thought it was a temple. But no, it was just an ‘80s mall!" Fortunately for us, we've already been able to catch a brief glimpse at this scene thanks to a recently released TV spot, but the full sequence should be a whole lot more fun to witness as we get to see more bonding moments between the younger versions of some of the most iconic X-Men.
He then goes on to briefly mention a deleted - *SPOILER ALERT* (highlight to reveal) - "farewell between Scott and his brother [Alex]," which is a scene that'll almost definitely strike a chord with fans of the Summers brothers. - *END SPOILER* - Also, in case you were disappointed by the lack of Jubilee in the final cut, Singer assures fans of the character that they'll get to see a lot more of her in the deleted segments, including a scene where we'll actually get to see her use her energy plasma-generating abilities: "We do have a moment where Jubilee uses her powers that you'll see on the DVD, I wanted more Jubilee." His reasoning behind cutting the aforementioned scenes along with others was mostly due to pace: "It's strange for the audience sometimes because they say, 'It's a good scene, why did you remove it?' But if you sat in a theater and watched it with all those scenes back in, it may seem good, but slow. And I don't want the audience to feel that." Sounds good enough to me.
