Bryan Singer Weighs In On Possible Trip To Outer Space In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Sequel

X-Men has done Magneto, Weapon X, and Apocalypse, so what could be next? How about a trip into outer space? Based on comments from Singer, that could happen as soon as the next movie...

With X-Men: Apocalypse receiving mixed reviews, it seems like the next movie needs to shake things up in a big way, especially as the vast majority of critics seem to agree that this world feels a little out of date and out of touch compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could outer space be the answer? Quizzed by Fandango on a possible 90s setting for the X-Men: Apocalypse follow-up, the filmmaker praised that storytelling method before adding: "[We’ve] also introduced the tenants of time travel, which already exists in the comic book. Also I imagine – and this is the first time I’ve actually answered the question this way – but another thing that’s been introduced in the comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn’t been explored. And to me, that might be kind of fun because I’m a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan, and exploring the X-Men universe and being able to utilize that would be exciting, visually." If the next movie really is going to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga in a more faithful way, taking things in a cosmic direction would definitely work.

Whether or not that will actually happen obviously remains to be seen, but Singer went on to make it clear that he'll only return to the world of the X-Men (after helming 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) if he has something new to play with. "Like Apocalypse – like some of the imagery and characters and stakes [in that movie] – it’s something we haven’t seen before. If I’m going to be involved in a significant way, it has to be something different. Visually different and aesthetically different," he explained. "So the ‘90s is a good jumping off point, but as we established in Days of Future Past and now with the formation of the X-Men – some characters in Apocalypse move towards their destinies. The characters who we knew from X-Men 1, 2 and 3. Meanwhile, some characters move in opposite directions. So it’s somewhat limitless." What do you guys think? Share your thoughts below.
