Simon Kinberg Calls X-MEN: APOCALYPSE A "Disaster Movie" With An "Extinction Level Event"

In yet another interview with Simon Kinberg, the X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer shares his thoughts on bringing Apocalypse to the big screen in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, while also teasing the massive presence that the villain will have in the sequel. Check it out!

"The thing that we’ve spent the most time talking about is not just the visual execution of the character, which is its own challenge – creating a character that’s the most powerful I think of any mutant villain that we’ve seen in the X-Men movies so far," X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg said when asked by IGN Movies about tackling the X-Men franchise's most comic book-y villain yet in (hopefully) Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. "More powerful than Magneto. The kind of scope and scale we’re talking about is like disaster movie, extinction level event. Sort of Roland Emmerich-style moviemaking, which you’ve never seen in an X-Men movie, or any superhero movie, which I think is exciting."

So, it sounds like this will be an even bigger movie than Days of Future Past in terms of the action scenes and stakes! Kinberg was quick to point out that Apocalypse will be a well fleshed out villain though, and not just there as an excuse for bigger and better special effects sequences. ""But we’ve also been talking about how to give him a real emotional and philosophical underpinning. So he’s not just somebody who’s out there destroying the world because he can. What he’s doing is – in his mind – justified and validated by a real compelling, coherent philosophy. He tries to proselytise and convert people – maybe some of our most familiar characters – to come to his cause." What do you guys think about these comments?

Unless they're gonna actually blow some continent outta the map, this won't surprise me. Someone always says "This has never been done before." I'll believe it when I see it.

You're getting seriously desperate with this flame baiting.

Rolland Emmerich style X-Men Film?!?... I know what you meant but you might want to rephrase that LOL. ;)

I remember the first time I saw Apocalypse on the old X-Men TV series, vaguely remembering Archangel in the Church. Good memories and hope Apocalypse owns.

I also liked how he looked in the post-credits scene. It wasn't modern day so I'm cool with him being much smaller. Shame though that Kang won't be incorporated into the origin at all

I hope they make him Badass and give some Depth to his character.

Oh, and Mr. Sinister! That guy could hold down a villain by himself as the single, central villain so setting him up here as Apocalypse's servant would be awesome!

I just say this movie early, it really good! I expected a little more but it's up there with X2(too me anyway). I can't say which one is better now.lol

I think this will be most peoples favorite because "SPOLIER"

some "things" got corrected.

after-credit scene was ok.

If you count DOFP as a sequel to First Class;
First Class-DOFP-Apocalypse could be one of the best CBM trilogies ever.

I'm guessing Wolverine would be the cause of waking Apocalypse out of his stasis being the time-traveler & all in replace of Cable.

Have to have Archangel, the Horsemen and Mr. Sinister. You have to!!

Just got back from DOFP...pretty sweet!

I'm now looking forward to 'Apocalypse' even more!

Question though....can anyone explain to me their opinion on the very last scene of the movie before the credits?

No worries if too difficult to discuss without spoiling....

I really wish they'd make this into two films, since this is probably the last actual xmen film before all these other spin offs. They have way more material to work with like Morlocks, Savage Land, even Asteroid M. They could make Sinister the villain of the first part and keep Apocalypse for the second part or something

(SPOILERS) Highlight text to read: After DOFP, DOFP and First Class are the only films in continuity. X1, X2, X3, Origins, The Wolverine, they no longer exist.

@Jollem

Shame the film was terrible though and the dumb villain's plan made little sense.

@Klone wouldn't get my hopes up for Archangel, but would be awesome to seehim. Especially after the underwhelming part he had in X3.

Hm... intriguing... well like the comics, they've already ruined the mystery to Wolverine. If they ever do Phoenix... do it right.

With new mutants added to the team (like Nightcrawler & Gambit) and a villain like Apocalypse, I'm so excited for this movie!

Now that they have basically started a clean slate, I hope we get an actual X-Men team, and not a bunch of gimp suit enthusiasts.

Why Tatum though? Taylor was fine. Them getting Gambit's powers completely wrong was not his fault. They basically replaced him with an ape.
