Simon Kinberg Describes X-MEN: APOCALYPSE As The "Culmination" Of The Trilogy

With some actors set to move on and the future of the franchise unclear as Bryan Singer sets his sights on 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea, what exactly is X-Men: Apocalypse going to be? Well, according to Simon Kinberg, it's definitely the "culmination" of this trilogy...

While we all still anxiously wait for the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse (common sense says it's coming with The Martian, though that's unconfirmed), Collider caught up with writer and producer Simon Kinberg to press him for details on how this movie fits into the franchise.

"It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies," he explained. "It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really — McAvoy, Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and Jen. And it’s a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories."

What's next for the X-Men franchise after X-Men: Apocalypse is a mystery at this point, especially as a follow-up has yet to be given a release date. Chances are though that the attention will be moved to the younger generation of mutants; Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, etc.

What do you think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

Trilogy? I don't even feel like X-Men first class is a part of it. Singer did a good job at that, killing a whopping freaking 2/3rds of the damn cast

Didn't like First Class as much as some, but thought DOFP was amazing.

High hopes!

its kind of ironic how they have done a full X-Men trilogy, but the X-Men just joined in the last movie.

Lets hope the young team has a great enough role to get the audience excited with them moving forward, Im tired of seeing the X-Men as secondary or small characters in the latest movies.

I'd like to think without Wolverine that Bryan will attempt to actually make other characters interesting but I'm not holding out for such "high expectations"

I was a big fan of First Class and enjoyed watching DOFP. Still Apocalypse is only #6 on my most anticipated list for 2016.

Damn, I forgot about Apocalypse in my 'must see' list. I know the Chinese actress that plays Blink already slipped she signed on for 4 more or so movies (after DoFP).

As big as this movie is, I don't know if it will outgross DOFP. Besides DOFP being a great movie, many of the viewers were excited to see the old cast return. Apoc is going to have a lot of new faces. At least, the movie will see the return of some of the most beloved X-Men characters like Cyke, Jean, and Nightcrawler. Is Wolverine in this movie btw?

If Apocalypse delivers on the goods as great or better than both X-Men First Class and X-Men DOFP than year this could be one of the best Trilogys of all time (superhero or not)!! All X-Men Apocalypse has to do is not suck (Spiderman3) or big a huge BLOATED mess (The Dark knight rises) or have a
character completely changed and wasted for dumb sh*t like a twist (Ironman3)! If Apocalypse can avoid any of these pitfalls Fox should have another hit!!

This X-men trilogy doesn't seem like a trilogy. They are good movies, but they seem like stand alone movies for the most part. Other than characters DOFP didnt have that much to do with First Class storywise.

I agree with @crabnado Kevin Bacon should have been Mr. Sinister. He should have been working for Apocalypse, which they would tie-i in this movie.
