Simon Kinberg Says X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Will Change The X-MEN Universe Forever

In a new interview, writer Simon Kinberg talks X-Men: Apocalypse and explains how the giant sequel will change the X-Men Universe, if it ties-in with Deadpool & Gambit, and also touches on whether Wolverine 3 will actually be Hugh Jackman's last turn as Wolverine!

X-Men: Days Of Future Past was a colossal hit, so it should come as no surprise that the upcoming sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse, is expected to be one of the biggest films of 2016. The film is set to feature possibly the largest ensemble ever assembled in a X-Men film with returning First Class/DOFP mutants Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Beast, Havok, and Quicksilver finally being joined by X-Men mainstays Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and more!

In a recent interview with IGN, writer/producer Simon Kinberg took a few moments to chat about the highly anticipated Bryan Singer film. Without revealing much, Kinberg does admit that the three upcoming X-Men films (Deadpool, Apocalypse, & Gambit) will be aware of one another, and that events, or the fallout, from each film will be acknowledged in subsequent films. He also reveals that the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, clearly the biggest of the three, will change the history of the X-Men cinematic universe forever. What this means is yet-to-be seen, but with some of the most prominent X-Men returning to the scene, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Additionally, a crossover with another Kinberg-produced project, The Fantastic Four, could always be on the horizon as well.

Before finishing off, Kinberg is asked a quick question about whether or not we'll learn what Mystique did with Wolverine following the end of X-Men: Days Of Future Past and whether or not James Mangold's Wolverine 3 will actually be the final time we see the Academy Award-nominated Hugh Jackman suit up as the fan-favorite Wolverine. He says we will see more than a few unresolved questions answered, but when asked to further elaborate about Jackman's status, he replies with a sly smile, says he loves Jackman as Wolverine, and the always reliable: "No comment."

Check out his full comments in the video below:

"You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. … Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?" -Bryan Singer

X-Men: Apocalypse will feature:
Director: Bryan Singer
Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine
James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X
Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto
Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme/Mystique
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast
Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver
Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse
Channing Tatum as Remy LaBeau/Gambit
Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers/Cyclops
Sophie Turner as Jean Grey/Phoenix
Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe/Storm
Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler
Ben Hardy as Warren Worthington III/Archangel
Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok
Olivia Munn as Betsy Braddock/Psylocke

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016

Also, I hope they keep the Fantastic Four and X-Men away from eachother, The last two X-men films have been period pieces and Fan4stic looks like its in the "not too distant future"

Hopefully it opens the door to more xmen characters and stories....this film does feel right. You've got the classic lineup with some new cool characters like jubille, psylocke and a badass angel. I hope it ones the doors to stuff like genosha, savage land and the shiar. PLEASE, I WANT THE SHIA'R EMPIRE!

let Wolvie in a next solo movie go underground and fight Yakuza, go against Omega Red in Syberia or let him discover his past via Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X adaptation. If Fox gonna go with Weapon X movie they should cast younger actor who would share screentime with Jackman. At the end of the movie let the younger actor take over the mantle.

Also ... God Damn you Fox because after DOFP timeline is so convulted that The Wolverine movie never happened. How could it happened if Jean Grey and others are still alive and the whole second Wolverine solo movie took place after X3.

The universe is still a bit messy.

FF in another dimension or at least in the present.

Deadpool in the present.

Wolverine [3] is basically in the OT.

Apocalypse in the 80s.

Gambit around Apocalypse.

Waiting on FF to see whether to bother or not, they'll likely want to do more with the younger cast so they'll be stuck in the 80/90s forever, Deadpool is on its own and they still need to wrap up Mangold's story.

I hope they just reboot everything and start with the original x-men and slowly introduce the second x-men. Give them time to explore the first five X-Men students there are great stories with them, then bring in the new x men, give Colosus, Banshee some worth. Lets see the battle of Rogue and Carole Denvers, let see Rogue actually fly.

Gambit came late to the x-men so let there be a back story when he was cloned by his father etc.

Then bring in Bishop, the time traveler and Cable too.........

Yeah! [frick] Wolverine! I hope since they're very secretive about Wolverines role that he only play a supportive if insignificant role going forward(at lest until they give the other characters justice.)

Does that mean that they're undoing the changes made in DOFP already? Ha.

I REALLY hope that Apocalypse is as much a game-change to the X-universe as being proclaimed by Simon Kinberg. But until we see the evidence I doubt it's going to change that much to fix ALL the continuity errors with characters.

There is one other thing I felt about this interview. You know when you hear Kevin Feige speak about Marvel Studios. He has this calming effect -even when there is upheaval with a project, like Ant-Man, for example. Whenever he talks -you just know everything is going to be alright. You just trust the guys instincts. Whenever I listen to folks from the other studios -I don't get that same feeling. It feels they are just getting by and figuring it all out.

Yeah, I admit we, Marvel fans, are extremely spoiled having a person at the helm like Kevin Feige. When it comes to the other studios constructing their universes, I just don't have that level of trust they can get things right.
