Why 'Psylocke' Sides With The Villain In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Despite an awesome visual appearance, we haven't heard much out of Olivia Munn's Psylocke in the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse. In a new interview, the actress opens up on why her character sides with the titular villain in the film. Some minor SPOILERS ahead...

As many fans might know, X-Men: Apocalypse won't be the first time we've seen Psylocke onscreen; the character's first live-action appearance was in X-Men: The Last Stand, albeit with a completely different powerset and no costume. Apocalypse is now offering a different take on the character, with Olivia Munn portraying a far more comic-accurate version in the film. However, despite being an X-Men team member in the comics, Psylocke acts as a Horseman of Apocalypse in this film, and according to Munn, there isn't a whole lot of reason given as to why she joins up with the ancient villain. "I know it’s not really shown in the movie that much. It’s something that I talked to Simon Kinberg and Bryan [Singer] about, saying that we’re not really showing the audience the genesis of who Psylocke is and why she would go with him. But the backstory of Psylocke that I brought into it just in my head that you can’t see on screen was that she lost her entire family. She has these really great abilities, these powers, and she’s been manipulated by many different leaders because she’s been looking for her righteous path and looking for a family again."

It's certainly disappointing to learn that another prominent X-Men character receives a lack of proper motivation and character development, though it's possible we could see this backstory expanded upon in a sequel.  Munn elaborated that she sees some similarities between her character and Wolverine. "Much like Wolverine in the comics, he’s got these really amazing abilities and he was manipulated by a lot of people to do their bidding. So that’s what she sees in Apocalypse – yet another maybe righteous leader. She’s looking for someone who will show her the way, and looking for a family."

At least they have the opportunity to make her better in future films. Can't really say the same for Angel unfortunately

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I honestly cannot fathom at how you can claim to be an X-Men fan and still support these diluted ass movies.

@Talontd - I am drinking diluted coffee, right now. But it's good tasting enough coffee, so I like it.

As fan of this character, it really pissed me the [frick] off. No justice was done. They better fix that in sequels if she's in any of 'em. CHRIST!😡😤

The only Japanese element she had was the Katana. But she was hot.
So... that does actually fix things, for me.

There is only really one attribute that is needed to play Psylocke and that is ASS.
And Munn got dat. Oh she sho do got dat.
Anyone else remember the shot of her getting up off the ground at the end of the movie.
That's Psylocke, right there.
Fvck backstory. Fvck race.
Ass.

Archangel wasn't blue.
Beast wasn't blue.
Mystique wasn't blue.

Apocalypse was the only one that was blue and he wasn't supposed to be.

(I know the elf was blue, too, but I'm trying to make a point).

I wish they could've dove into Psylocke for a couple minutes to give more of a reason to join apocalypse other than switch to a more powerful leader.

Poor Munn. I can just see her tapping on Singer's shoulder asking: "so, what's my backstory?" and Singer's like... "you wear a purple thong."

"Okay, I can work with that."
