Simon Kinberg Talks Fan Reaction To 'Quicksilver', X-MEN: DOFP "Rogue Cut" And STAR WARS

Simon Kinberg shares his thoughts on the positive reaction to Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past after a lot of initially very negative buzz, the plans to release a "Rogue Cut" of the movie and getting George Lucas' seal of approval on Star Wars Rebels. Check it out!

It was recently revealed that Fox will release a "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past next year which will include all of Anna Paquin's scenes and more. In a recent interview with Collider, writer and producer Simon Kinberg had this to say about the decision to release an extended version of the "inbetweenquel" in 2015 following its home video release this winter. "[We] weren’t sure how we were gonna release the Rogue Cut. But there was so much to do with the theatrical cut and so much material we wanted to put on that first wave that I guess it made sense ot do it as two separate releases, and also doing the Rogue Cut would take more time than we really have for this first release." With Fox apparently completing the special effects in some cut scenes for this version of the movie, the site asked Kinberg whether or not we might see the movie re-released on the big screen too. "Not that I know of. As far as I know it’s a home entertainment release."

Quicksilver was obviously a major talking point before X-Men: Days of Future Past was released and just about everyone was shocked when Evan Peters ended up stealing the show in a fantastic scene. Asked to comment on this, Kinberg added: "We showed it to friends and family at a few screenings, and I could tell from just those initial screenings of the response in the room, in the moment, to that Quicksilver sequence that it was special.  Certainly you never know until a movie comes out if people are gonna embrace it or reject it no matter how big the title—sometimes that’s an even bigger challenge—so I was as nervous as I’ve ever been with that movie coming out.  But the critical response, the fan response, the mainstream response, I’m very happy with the way people embraced the film.  For the Quicksilver sequence, from the first time that Bryan really conceived it and described it, I thought it had the chance to be something really special and memorable. The sequence that it most reminded me of in the conceptual stages was the opening sequence of X2 with Nightcrawler, which to me is still one of the great action sequences certainly in superhero movies but maybe any movie, so we were responding to that."

Talk then turned to Star Wars Rebels, the Disney XD series which Kinberg is writing and producing. George Lucas' involvement was nonexistant, he is a fan! "[We] showed the pilot to George Lucas, and George really liked it.  I would say George Lucas’ approval was #1 and my kids’ approval was #2 for me.  He knew what we were doing but he was seeing the pilot for the first time." As for his work on one of the upcoming live-action Star Wars spin-offs, he teased: "That’s the one thing I cannot ever talk about (laughs).  I would say it’s something I’m very excited about and I think that’s all I’m allowed to say on that." What do you guys think of these latest comments?

I can't wait to see how Rogue's story would have affected the film, however I do take their work for it that her subplot was unnecessary.

The Quicksilver scene by itself was awesome! But imo his introduction simply created way too many new questions and problems within both DoFP and the larger X-movie continuity.

Kinberg is a busy man, I respect him for confessing his wrongs and trying to make the best ot of what he can do now. Now, does his best meet the criteria and standards of all the fans? No. But the guy is really getting involved with these properties and projects and within each intterview it seems like he's becoming a bit more open towards expressing his ideas and involvment.

Reading Kinberg interviews is great. The guy has a real passion for his work. Miles better than trudging through a Goyer interview.

Quicksilver was awesome, even the terrible costume worked within the context of the film, and the characterization of Peter. Still wish they didn't change his name. And thank Jeebus that Kinberg confirmed him being Magneto's son.

Hate double-dipping. I'm waiting for the "Rogue Cut" only. And couldn't they call it a Director's Cut or Extended Cut like normal people?

@OmegaDaGod:
Exactly. The scene being awesome doesn't change the fact that Quicksilver's costume and hair still looks like ass

@RobGrizzly

I doubt it will be called a "Rogue Cut". The marketing for it would be terrible.

@MrFridayNights

That could be true...but it'll be tough duty to surpass Iron Man, Captain America, and Blade. 2 fantastic trilogies, and Cap3 should be outstanding as well.

Honestly if Apocalypse is better than DOFP (which it might be) the First Class trilogy could be the best CBM trilogy of all time
