JAMES BOND Producer Explains Why The Franchise Will Never Cast A Younger Actor As 007

As speculation continues running rampant about who will play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig left the role behind, one of the franchise's producers explains why they won't consider a younger actor.

There's still a lot of talk about who will ultimately be chosen to play the next James Bond, with many fans concerned that their top picks - Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Jamie Dornan, for example - will be aged out by the time the next movie finally begins shooting. However, that might not be the problem we thought it would be.

Following recent comments from producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson that they're looking to find an actor who will commit to the role for the long haul, the latter has followed that up by making it clear that they're not planning to cast a younger actor as Daniel Craig's replacement.

In an interview with Deadline (via ActioNewz.com) discussing the changes at MGM since Amazon acquired the studio, Wilson said, "It’s a whole new world. We’ve got to see what happens with Amazon. But there’ll always be a Bond." He'd add to that by making it clear there's still no new 007 "no matter what others tell you."

Elaborating on that latter point, the producer said: "We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something."

"He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something."

Well, at least we know what age range they're looking for now, even if we are no closer to casting news.

There are quite a lot of candidates in their late 20s likely to be the right age by the time the next James Bond movie comes along, but there's clearly no rush to replace Craig after No Time to Die. We're hoping for some news next year, but at this rate, we wouldn't be surprised if they keep us waiting until 2024 for an official James Bond casting reveal.

Who do you think should play the next 007? Let us know in the comments section!

I do wonder if we might finally get a Nolan directed Bond film. Nolan has said in the past that a) the timing would have to be perfect between both himself and the Broccolis and b) it would have to be a Begins/CR style ground up new version. IE Nolan would help cast Bond, set the tone for this incarnation, not just doing Craig Bond #5.

Well, we are finally in the nebulous, post Craig stage where the franchise can literally be anything. Nolan is finishing Oppenheimer but doesn't have announced project after that, and while Universal I'm sure wants Nolan back, I don't think he has any kind of first look deal signed with them.

*If* there was a time for it, when it fit both their schedules and could be a fresh restart, this would be it...

Honestly, it's just idiots being retarded.

We've just had an older James Bond focusing on the concept of the world moving past him because he's outdated, the spy world has evolved beyond him.

The best counter to that and to tap into a brand new market would be a 'Young James Bond' storyline, which would also be a way of avoiding the sex/romancing of his previous portrayals because he's inexperienced.

This is great news! Glad they understand what makes Bond, Bond. While I don't have anything against younger actors wanting to portray the role, it just wouldn't work for 007.

@Jayman627 - But if they don't race swap or have a younger bond and just keep on casting mid 30s to 40s white guys then its essentially the same thing over and over again but with a new face lift each time.

Like the Jurassic Park franchise, Bond is already starting to depreciate at the box office and relevancy.

Makes sense. We've had the original 'Bond in the here-and-now' in Connery plus the reboot which covered Bond's start as 007 with Craig, the latter is very much part of recent memory so we don't need to have a new younger Bond effectively going back to the beginning again, just bring in a Bond in his mid-late 30s and drop him straight into the 'established 007' role (same as was done for all the actors between Connery and Craig) and get on with it. And please, no emotional Bond psychology threads and multi-movie arcs, just get on with those solid and largely self-contained movies.

@CaptainAustralia - I would love the next film to just open with a new Bond on an exciting mission, opening titles, goes into a new M's office and flirts with a new Moneypenny (or keep Fiennes and Harris ala Dench), and gets the movie's plot from M.

Acting aside... I don't want Cavill if he's gonna refuse to slim down like he did with Witcher. Still takes me out seeing him as Geralt. He ended up bulking even more for the role instead.

I'm not even ready for another Bond. With all due respect to Sean Connery and Roger Moore, I firmly believe Daniel Craig delivered us the greatest Bond ever. Quantum of Solace aside, all of his Bond films were excellent, including the GOAT Casino Royale.

Daniel Craig had the perfect swan song with No Time Die. I think we need to let his movies sink in for a while and let the audience really crave another Bond film before throwing the IP right in our face.

@CaptainDC - I still have to watch No Time To Die, but I'm revisiting the Craig movies on Amazon and Spectre is still the worst by far, hope NTTD is better, will see it this weekend.

@CaptainDC - Daniel Craig is about as charming as a wooden chair. Bond should be charming. Craigs movies are just generic action flicks, nothing Bond about them.
You like generic action movies and that is fine, but dont tell us he was the best Bond, he was nothing like Bond.

@Yankdandy - If you've seen Casino Royale and Skyfall I don't understand how you can say that...
