NO TIME TO DIE Director Outlines Alternate Endings For Daniel Craig's Final BOND Movie - SPOILERS

No Time To Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga has outlined some of the alternate endings he had in mind for Daniel Craig's final James Bond movie. If you still haven't seen it, spoilers follow...

We'd all heard the rumors prior to the movie's release (the title may also have been a slight hint), and No Time To Die made the bold, somewhat controversial decision to kill-off James Bond in its closing moments, with Daniel Craig's iconic super-spy going out in suitably spectacular fashion.

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga has already spoken about choosing to send 007 off to the big cocktail bar in the sky, but in a new interview with Variety, the filmmaker outlines some of the alternate ideas he had for the character's death scene.

In the film, Bond sacrifices himself to save his loved ones (not to mention the rest of the word) from a biological weapon unleashed by Lyutsifer Safin (Rami Malek), and meets his maker in a hail of rocket fire after calling in a missile strike. However, it sounds like 007's demise was almost handled very differently.

Fukunaga says he toyed with the idea of "blowing him up in a rocket," before describing a more low-key, arguably appropriate end for Ian Fleming's secret agent.

"A bullet, like an anonymous bullet, I remember that one. But it just seemed like a conventional weapons death didn’t seem appropriate. Given how much he had been able to escape from everything else, the fact that it would just be a bullet that always had your name on it from the beginning, as a sort of the thematic element seemed, while realistic, for Bond it had to be something even beyond that — like the impossible, impossible situation."

Where the franchise goes from here remains to be seen. We know a new actor is being sought to take over from Craig, but will he play Bond in a full reboot? One would assume so, but it would be a shame if that excellent supporting cast didn't get to reprise their roles.

The bullet sounds interesting but I understand his take on how him surviving so much else would’ve made it not seem appropriate. Then again, something so lowkey after all the grandiosity prior could’ve been refreshing.

"But it just seemed like a conventional weapons death didn’t seem appropriate... so we nuked him."

Him getting shot by one bullet and showing the gun barrel shot of him dying would have been perfect.

Ridiculous. As if escaping one bullet means you automatically escape them all.

It wasn't very satisfying.

I hated the ending. Both the fact that they killed him, and how it happened.
I thought it would have been so much more tragic if he lived, but with the consequence that he could never see his family again, and was cursed to live out his days without them.

Not to mention that even if he hadn't been poisoned, he still wouldn't have been able to escape the explosion, so then why have him get poisoned in the first place?

@pestulio07 - To be fair I think he would've been able to escape. Q thought he would anyway that's why he was saying to get a move on.

His death was awful and almost felt spoof like. He had already been shot and it would have been better if he just bled out, similar to how Leonardo DiCaprio's character dies in Blood Diamond.

I love seeing my heroes die. And Bond’s death was no exception. The bullet death sounds perfect. But so does nuking him. Maybe a future Bond can be killed by a marksman’s bullet.

Bullet would have been the best. With a gun barrel pov.

I guess the idea came from that iconic barrel shot, because otherwise a bullet would've been kinda lame. Could've still done it though, but instead with the barrel of ship cannon

While I don't necessarily agree with killing the character (although I respect them for having the balls to do it), this sounds way better. The death we got wasn't even a good death. So because he's escaped so much and dodged so many bullets, we'll fire an arsenal of missiles at him, that should finish him off good and proper lol. We'll make it work by sticking nanobots in his blood which would kill Swann and his daughter if he touched them. It felt...cheap and overblown, and not in line with what the Craig era had become known for: realism.

I'm sure everyone remembers the black and white opening scene of Casino Royale, after earning 00 status and a license to kill, he assassinates Dryden with one bullet to the head.

The ending scene of No Time To Die should of mirrored that. Should of been in black and white with an unknown assailant shooting him with one bullet, with the scene closing with the classic gun barrel. Or something along those lines. If they had done something like this it would of brought it full circle, and being killed in such an understated way would of carried more emotional weight.

Understated isn't always a bad thing. Less is more.

Casino Royale - with two amazing reboots, the other being GoldenEye, bring back Martin Campbell!
Skyfall - an extremely close second, love the neon fight scene.
Quantum Of Solace - felt like DLC to CR, but it was still great DLC. Come at me lol.
No Time To Die - I like 75% of it.
Spectre - has some good moments but linking the past movies felt forced, and the Blofeld reveal was meh. Also includes unintentionally hilarious torture scene.

I don’t think they should have killed him. And definitely not like that. Him giving up irked me a little bit. With James it seems he’s always had a never give up just do now & figure it out later mentality. So seeing him give up now when he’s got something to live for more than ever before just seemed weak & disingenuous. He’s got the greatest minds in the world that could’ve worked to help him. He at the very least could’ve watched his girl grow up from a distance, watching her protecting her from his never ending list of enemies he’s made over the years. Making sure the sins of the father don’t come back to haunt him. Also could’ve provided for her. To me if they wanted him dea, then take it out of his hands. But other than that gripe I really enjoyed the movie almost as much as sky fall or casino royale
