Here is a look alike. Remember they said they wont use this image. I guess they will but with another stage. They will mix up the heaad and stuff.

This is Oozaru in the trailer.

Here are more pics of Dragonball toys. Two show Goku and piccolo with 4 arms. This is just like in the anime.

I think it's from the cartoon when they'd punch so super fast it looked like they had four arms...idk...I think it's stupid on a toy...and not good for a movie...not gunna lie...it still looks like crap

OMG!!! this has made a believer this movie will rock, I love the high quality of the toys they are making!!!

Yeah right, this movie is crap just like all the toys, posters, videogame, and any merchandise they have based on it, and thanks to Fox not doing any sort of promotion, it will bomb big time, which is just fine by me. And why do people that want other people to see this movie keep showing that fish?

Im trying to work out what the think is with the saiyan armour....saibamen? Those green things they grow from the ground...interesting anyway. My only gripe with the ADAPTATION so far is the choice to include the oozaru transformation as i can understand everything else to ground it in reality or for cinematic purposes but to have him turn into a monkey-alien thing all when he doesn't have a tail? isn't need although if i gets me a sequel or a cliff-hanger with some vegeta then rock on.

Just re-read and actually look and realised its an oozaru lol and suddenly realise itll be linked to some random flashback involving saiyan exposition and prob no vegeta.

@Shaman, thAT ANSWER IS SUPER WRONG. Ive seen Dragonball episodes. tien and goku could grow arms. Tien grew 4 and Goku grows 8. Forreal

OriginalPhysco - 2/16/2009, 3:20 PM
Look at when Goku stoped. Why would Goku lie and say he grew 8 arms. Goku never lies tho. And you know Goku learns things easily. you are one of those people who said it was fast punching grif. You cant love something you never seen. you probaly mean Dragonball z

Slifer151 - 2/16/2009, 3:35 PM
RecoSwaVa I think you'll find you are wrong in this case, Goku doesn't grow arms he just moves real fast, check the manga. Also, he doesn't say he will grow 8 he just says he'll try 8. It's a mind game to throw Tien off and it works. Also in the clip you provided, the arms are shown to be vibrating, a classic way in which anime shows super speed.

Slifer151 - 2/16/2009, 3:40 PM
Just as a reference, the episode of the anime "Then there were 8" features the 8 arms technique where Goku fights King Chapa. Goku then uses this technique in his fight with Tien

Messy messy, even though everyone spotted the pink in Piccolo's arm in the production stills leaked months ago... the problem is still there in the trailer for everyone to see.

actually to the guy that said they punch really fast you're it's technique that krillin, piccolo and tien use can't remember what it is called also goku's never used that technique so he shouldn't look like that (toy)!
Slifer151
Slifer151 - 2/16/2009, 3:45 PM
Check the dragonball wiki, I'm telling you 8 arm technique that involves speed, no arm growy :p

Either way, the toys look WIERD as, and this one instance in the anime doesn't really warrant making 4 armed figures :S

THIS TICKS ME OFF. Why cant they just follow Dragonball and work their way to dragonball Z....How hard is that?

Why cant they just use KING KONG as the damn ape. lol
I'll take that idea over that piece of shit CGI thingy they did.

They're trying something new, give 'em a break. If kids buy them, they served their purpose. They always do gimmick toys like this. Why does IM need a red/gold speedster? Why does Batman need a dart-shooting utility belt? Why do WWE wrestlers need a catapult?
Also, I found a more succinct vid of the 8 arms technique. It is CLEARLY speed-based. Notice once Goku stops, he has 2, while Tien still has his 4.

ok i had never seen the dragonball cartoon so always just speculated about the movie for what it was. But i saw alot of you guys having really passionate debates about it..so i just watched recoswavas video there..OH MY GOD,..look im sorry if im offending anyone here but THAT is what you guys revere so much? THAT???

its like a cartoon written by, voiced and animated by a 6 year old! Am i totally missing something here? is it sposed to be a comedy or something?
Shadowelfz
Shadowelfz - 2/16/2009, 6:55 PM
Yep its supossed to be a comedy, an action, a drama, and to a much lesser extent romance (Goku n Chi Chi). Toriyama created a show that was supposed to be entertaning on all levels. Its not supossed to be serious, just silly fun with some nice action thrown into the mix. Now whether someone finds it so is up to the viewer, as with all things.

Besides, most people here are fans of Dragonball Z, which features much more epic action, a little less silliness, and better animation. I still like Dragonball, but Z is much better. Watch Goku battle it out with Vegeta in DBZ and you'll see what everyone likes so much ;)

NoobMike - 2/16/2009, 7:07 PM
yes ror, DB has a very good amount of comedy it sort of mocks many things, many times I burst out loud laughing at it (I started watching it when I was 14 and loved that the person that taught him martial arts was a perverted old man with massive nosebleed attacks). DBZ is more like a regular anime, fairly serious but the fights are extremely long (for no reeason at all) and it has a joke every now and then. The dubs for everything are ususally horrible. DB is sort of like Wild Zero, it has a fairly serious storyline running through it but what drives it forward is the absurd situations.

Most people revere DBZ which lost most of the comedic charm DB had, I know DB as it is, is impossible to do a live action movie (or extremely hard to do, unless audiences aren't an issue) but what they have done to the movie is just horrible.

Well if the humor is intentional then it takes some of the suck factor away from those 10 mins i watched! Still very underwhelmed though..but like i said before im not a big Anime fan.

Goku looks like Winona Rider
Piccolo = tranny
oozaru = Yeah put that back
FalconX2
FalconX2 - 2/16/2009, 8:51 PM
Nah, I think this movie will be a perfect translation of DBZ! You will spend the entire length of the movie in anticipation of one massive fight, and the movie will end right after only one punch is thrown, and you will have to wait until the sequel to actually watch the fight. Then you find out in the sequel that after that one punch, they decided to talk for 2 hours and you actually have to wait for the 3rd movie to see the fight which will end up in a M Night Shamalamadingdong twist and you feel empty inside, like when your parents made you hug your sister as an apology.

But in all seriousness, this movie looks awful to me, and I can't wait to see just how bad it is! It looks like a high dollar martial arts B-movie, the ones that are so bad they are fun to watch.

wow, can you people be stupid enough to believe that those Goku and Piccolo toys have four arms.

Look at the pivots on the elbows. if they were going to make 4 arms, it'd a heck of an inconvenience to make having two forearms on the same pivot point. and if they were two arms on each hand, how do you explain them sort of growing out of the other arm right under it. If a toy company is going to make a toy w/ four arms, they'd make a toy that has completed the transformation, not make it where the arm is like one huge extra finger.

it's supposed to be showing a punching action.

While I'm all for the movie, I do have to admit these two ads do look rather ridiculous. But they ARE directed towards kids....it's just like those really bad toy commercials from the late 80s to the late 90s and the very few that are on today.
SGA
SGA - 2/16/2009, 10:42 PM
nevermind...I looked more closely, and the two top arms on Goku and Piccolo are bigger than the lower ones, and I looked, and they're actually like sleeve covers. It's like those toys you find at Toys-R-Us that have normal Goku and Vegeta, and you slip them into a rubbery covering and they're bulky super saiyans...that's what the arms are...bulky rubbery covers to make it look like they got bigger.

and if you're questioning the indention on Goku's arm (and i think it's on piccolo's too) it's probably to help hold the rubber skin on, like an "insert tab A into slot B" type thing.

I still say these look like bad toy commercials though.

this was taken from a press release and it explains the toys, so there is no more confusion about what's what and why it's there.

The 2009 Toy Fair began today in NYC, and Dragonball: Evolution figures will be showcased!

As Dragonball: Evolution hits theaters April 8, Bandai America and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox L&M), will give kids and collectors alike the chance to extend the viewing experience beyond the big screen with a new line of action figures based on the film. The new movie line leverages Bandai’s expertise in Japanese toy trends and within the action figure category to launch a collection of highly detailed toys styled after the stars from the film.

Dragonball has a cult following and boasts a history that is unmatched by other anime properties. The Bandai America line will reflect the look and feel of Dragonball: Evolution all while staying true to the franchise’s long history. The detailed facial expressions and accessories only add to these action figures’ collectability, making these entertainment-inspired toys a must for boys and adult collectors.

“Dragonball: Evolution is an exceptional action adventure film that is certain to entertain collectors and new fans alike,” said Colleen Sherfey, senior director of marketing, Bandai America Inc. “We are excited to work with Fox Licensing & Merchandising to launch a captivating new toy line that will allow viewers to bring the excitement of the movie into their own home and bring to life the unique and exciting adventures of the Dragonball characters.”

Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President Licensing and Merchandising for Fox L&M added, “The introduction of Dragonball: Evolution is the next installment to an amazingly successful franchise that boasts more than $4 billion in related merchandise sales. We know that fans both old and new will be looking for ways to interact with the property and Bandai America has created a great program to satisfy their hunger.”

Dragonball was created in 1984 by famed artist Akira Toriyama as a “manga series.” Since then it has become one of the most successful manga franchises of all-time spawning best selling graphic novels, comic books, video games, toys and now, a live-action movie. Dragonball: Evolution starring Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds), Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera), Jamie Chung (Samurai Girl), James Masters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Eriko (NBC’s “Heroes”) and Chow Yung Fat (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), will release April 8, 2009.

The Dragonball: Evolution toy line will hit select retailers in April to coincide with the theatrical release and will include:

* Movie Action Figures- Fans can collect all seven of these 4” articulated figures styled after the stars of Dragonball: Evolution and the characters that they portray. Available as Goku, Yamcha, Roshi, Piccolo, Bulma, Goku 2 and Fulum, each figure comes with a weapon or accessory unique to that character. Each figure includes a piece of the Oozaru (Big Monkey), 1 of 7 Dragonballs and a piece of the Dragonball altar. Collect all seven figures to form an exclusive figure of Oozaru and the Dragonball altar. Even the packaging contains a special insert card! Collect all seven cards to form the Shenron Dragon.

* 6” Fast-Acting Figure- Pull on the ripcord to activate each figures’ special move, like Goku and Piccolo’s rapid arm-punching action or Yamcha’s fast leg-kicking action. A DragonBall is attached to the end of the ripcord.
