Whether the Asian movie-goers thought the movie was amazing or a massive fail, it's pretty much agreed that the comedy was the best aspect of the film.

I found this guy who has a tv show about what it's like for an westerner living in Japan. For one of his videos he did a special video for the release of Dragonball Evolution. Mixed reviews.

i wont pay to see the movie in theaters but i do intent to see it and Goku not being Asian is fine with me BUT the actor doesnt fit cause he needs to be a bit buff not some emo actor

grir, again you donno wtf you are talking about, DB is good BECAUSE of the comedy, untill Piccolo daimao comes, the last saga of DB, it was mainly a comedy anime with some weak action, and that's how the movies rolls, it start with alot of comedy and end up with the action, not saying i loved but i enjoyed as i enjoyed DB, nothing special, just a fun movie.

Well i'm glad they at least got that right, Doritos is right on this one. Comedy IS a major part of DB's charm.

It's totally right about Goku should be an asian guy. It's like if you made superman an asian guy. It just doesn't work. Superman is white and goku is asian. This movie is gonna suck.

Actually thills22, i have to agree with you. There's never been any statement from the creators saying that Goku is supposed to be asian. No one knows what an alien is supposed to look like. This movie will suck but not on account of Goku's looks.

Props to thills22! Face it: the movie's coming out, and there ain't a damn thing we can do about it. So the only thing to do here is quit bitchin' and enjoy the ride! Plus, anyone ever consider the possibility that if all these little liberties and changes were necessary...? The movie would look completely retarded if they kept everything exactly the same as it is in the series.
YOU can go on ahead and make a "better" one if you want, with all the overly-muscular people with retarded hair, midgets without noses and talking animals if you want. Meanwhile, I'LL be off enjoying a fair rendition of a great show.

I agree thills22. Goku is a Saya-Jin and no one knows what they look like. I can see all other characters being Asian, but Goku and Vegeta... Naaa. As far as Emily playing Bulma, she's hot so that's fine. I try to play both ends. It looks bad with story and acting like Justin. Changes and lines are bad. That is a given in Hollywood. But I will go see it and at least give it a chance. I have a feeling it won't do great but I want to see the action of an anime on big screen. The humor will probably help if it's done right. I think Ben Stiller is boring but when I saw What About Mary I feel out of my seat laughing and enjoyed it.

I agree with thills22, if someone can do better, then please do it. We would all be happy if a huge fan made an accurate rendition of Dragonball.
Of course we have to remember one thing, if it was 100% faithful to the manga (the original source) then it would make next to nothing monetarily. The general public would not appreciate Oolong, a tail on Goku, etc.
Just because there is a large fan base, it does not guarantee that it would be a money maker. The general public has to have some interest as well. Just look at Watchmen, I am sure it will pay for itself, but it is not going to make a lot of money after that.
Oh, and i have to disagree about not knowing what Goku looks like: he has black unruly hair, black eyes, fairly muscular build...sorry just me being an ass.

You know, Goku is an alien. So why does he HAVE to be Asian? They never say he is in the tv show/manga.

hey thills22....i cud really care less about goku being white or asian. i was never a huge dbz fan to begin with. but in defense of the whole goku is asian vs. white debate, ur right goku is an alien...and so is superman. they shud make superman asian in the next film. or have will smith play him (because he was actually asked to play him but denied cuz he didnt think the world wud accept a black superman). are kryptonians white looking? does that sound good? maybe its a little different with supes because he's more of an icon...BUT its still the same logic! supes shud stay white looking and goku shud stay asian looking along with whoever was asian in the cartoon. So g'head, lose your sh!t lol. I'll still prolly see this movie. Again I'm not a huge DBZ fan, but I still think he should be jap or somekind of asian.

everyone in the db universe looks the same so does that mean the entire planet they live on is comprised of only Japanese people. in DB/Z/GT they travel all over the world everyone looks the same, so no one is any specifect race (cept the black and Indian people)and Goku is not Asian he is an alien and I'm fine with Bulma being American due to what i said above about there planet and races.

Know what I don't get...When a movie does bad, they blame the director...but if a movie does well they only praise the actors (in most cases).

We cant compare the race issue with Superman and Goku, they're definitely not nearly the same. Yes, they're both from different planets, but Clark Kent grew up in Smallville, KS in the U.S. and guku grew up where...? Yes the story was created in Japan, but they never said the story takes place there. The DB world is NOTHING like ours, unlike with Superman. Just like Osiris said, all we know is he's not Black or Indian... or a talking animal. lol. I could see if it was an anime like Bleach or yuyu hakusho that actually takes place in japan, but its not.

Watched some of it online, yeah its not dragonball, its like some idiot was given money and a job to make the movie and he totally changed things around yet keeping the names of key characters, if your a fan and totally want to be dissapointed then pissed off. watch this movie.

Saw it.. And it's awful. It was like.. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, The Phantom, and Steel all rolled into one. Howard The duck was better than this movie. All jokes aside, it was nothing dragon ball. You could of changed the characters names and nobody would of put the two together.

OK HUGE NEWS GUYS!!!!! Right now if u want to watch the movie before it comes out it can be found online. i wont give out the exact site since i dont want anything being messed up with the site, but just try searching it in google and see if u can find it. i am watching it right now and i am pretty sure it is the japanese version but it isnt bad. like it is in english except there is no subtitles when there is a little bit of japanese. but yeah. ill post again to let u know what i think.

Well, I Just got finished watching it and I will say this, I have seen way worse for sure. It focuses on story more than action and that was kind of a bummer, but it was not too bad for a first attempt at a dragonball movie. Some of the fight scenes were very poorly executed, and too quick to really get you into it, but all in all its not as bad as you might think. Not a great movie by far, but not the worst one out there either. Just makes me hope that all they can do now is make it better....lol

so yeah i agree with lobo. it wasnt as bad as i thought. like it was very quick and i am thinking it was just the one i saw cause it was only 70 minutes. but yeah i mean it was worth watching. they dont really get to in detail on anything. they kinda just throw u in and expect u to know some stuff

Ok ... I've just seen the movie, and not for nothing it was a lot better then i was thinking it was going to be. It's not as bad as i thought, but still not great. The fights could have been better, but I think thats how it is with all movies when there trying to explain something even though the story is not like the anime storyline. The whole goku not being japanese thing is bogus, I think justin did a good job, and we have to remember he's not from earth, and he was found by his grandfather so over all i think he did a good job as Goku. if they do a part two, it might be better but so far I give 3 out of 5 stars. And yes the movie could have been better if it was longer it was only around 70 min.

the chick is dumb, how can u say goku was jap he was a alien.. im sure its gonna be good, it seems like a movie were theyed kinda not be so in depth.. and if thats your only childhood memories come on that kid of sad :), what about GI JOE, or TRANSFORMERS :D
