Batman 3 To Be Michael Caine's Last As Alfred The Butler?

What a grand film for SIR michael caine to go out on, we've been honored to have him this far as the incarnation of our hallowed butler of the dark knight

Well, since we know this will be Nolan's last Bat, I would assume Caine isn't expecting to stay on as Alfred..but we can hope!

Michael Cane is an amazing actor. I love him in his movies from Dirt Rotten Scoundrels to the Bat-Films.

It makes sense if Batman 3 will be Nolan's last. Nice time to retire.

I BET NOLAN WAS ONLY DOWN FOR 3 ANYWAYS..AFTER THREE SOMEONE NEW WILL TAKE THE HELM, THATS HOW IT USUALLY IS, AND WITH IT BEING NOLAN..HECK HE'S NOT ONE TO STAY, THE GUY HAS A RAMPANT IMAGINATION AND LOVES EXPLORING.

This is pretty much the last of the series. Nolan is leaving, it's pretty much definite that Bale is leaving, and Caine is more than likely leaving too.

Nolan has stated that it's a trilogy, that about sums up any more Nolan directed Batman films.

Josh, understand this, Nolan even said this would be his last Batman movie, there will be a new director for any future movie so dont hope for anymore Nolan movies, just hope Batman 3 will complete the first perfect superhero trilogy ever. and as magic8 said, Nolan can always stay on as producer to make sure the Batman franchise doesnt go the way it originally did

And cmon Josh, Michael Caine will be 80, I think it is the right time to retire for him. And anyway, wouldnt it be a fantastic movie to finish his career on?! It will be much better than Sean Connery's last movie, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I still have shudders thinking about that crap, even though he was awesome in it as usual.

But I am completely fine with Michael retiring, he has a movie career that has covered just about everything they could make a movie about, if he goes out in style with what will hopefully will be the awesome Batman 3, I will be very happy. Although he has the most awesome voice to continue on a career in voice-acting roles, in my opinion

And anyway, most franchises that are willing to go beyond a trilogy really need to recast everyone by that point and for the Batman movies, there isnt that many characters to recast, Batman, Alfred, Gordon, Lucius Fox, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul, Zhasz, Joker (for different reasons of course) and whoever will be the villains in Batman 3. Some of these may never return in the movies either so they wont all need recasting. I dont want a reboot but I think a loose continuation (that could fit in better with a potential JLA franchise) with a total recast will be much better.

When comparing it to a comic, the way I look at it is, different artists and writers on a comic can be compared to a different director or writer on a CBM, they may change some things around and characters might look different but the essence of the characters stays the same and its all in the same continuity too. Its the same for the movies, the cast will look different but if future directors and casts stay true to the character of Batman, it can all be left in the same continuity.

FFS, does it have to be a reboot? Everybody always thinks its going to be a reboot but why not a loose continuation. With another [frick]ing reboot, it will be stupid. Reboots are only needed when the franchise is dying and the Batman one is far from dying. A loose continuation doesnt have to constantly refer to the events of Nolan's movies. Joker and Scarecrow is in Arkham where they would probably be in a reboot anyway, a simple line can cover Ra's Al Ghul's resurrection and anyway its perfect for the character because he is always dying and resurrecting in the comics anyway. Two-Face's death can be retconned with a simple line, no-one must know the previous DA is alive and a cold-blooded killer or it would be a blow to the people of Gotham. And as for never mentioning Rachel Dawes again, he is probably going to brood over her death a lot in the third movie anyway, so we wont want to hear any references to her character in future movies anyway

As long as Nolan doesnt kill Batman or do something stupid with the villains, the Batman series could easily continue on with loose sequels to Nolan's movies and without a reboot. Sorry about the long rant, but people, especially the studios have to realise that reboots arent always the case, a lesson that should have been learned with the Spider-Man series

I think it all depends on where Nolan takes the storyline in this 3rd movie. If he ends it in an open note, WB will probably continue the franchise with a partial/complete recast, maybe leading it up to a JLA movie.

If, on the other hand, he closes the story off, i.e, Batman dies or some such, then it's inevitably back to Rebootville. Either way, I think this trilogy will be one of the best in CBM history for years to come.
