MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS Reboot To Commence Filming This Winter

We might not know who exactly will be playing the next generation of Power Rangers just yet, but we do now know when they'll be expected to suit up. Come check it out!

With an early 2017 release date, it was only a matter of time before production kicked off on Lionsgate's upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot and now, thanks to YVRShoots, we know exactly when the film should officially commence.

The site is reporting that the Dean Israelite-directed film, which has a script from X-Men: First Class & Thor scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz, is expected to begin filming in Vancouver on January 18th and then wrap sometime around April 12th. The co-production between Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment will shoot
 under the working title "SHIRT."

The cast has yet-to-be finalized, but based on this latest report, it's probably a safe bet to assume that we'll start hearing about which five young actors will portray the iconic Rangers much sooner than later. The
original '90s phenomenon starred Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, David Yost, Amy Jo Johnson, & Walter Jones as the five original Power Rangers: Jason, Trini, Billy, Kimberly, & Zack. Last month, it was reported that the new movie will feature updated 21st century takes on these same five characters.

What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

After 10,000 years of imprisonment, the evil sorceress Rita Repulsa and her loyal minions are freed when astronauts on a routine mission in space accidentally open her dumpster prison on the Moon. A team of “five teenagers with attitude” — Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy and Trini — receive superpowers beyond their wildest dreams so they can defend the Earth as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Looking forward to this, can't wait to see what can be done in the modern age & with a decent budget. Hopefully some original Mighty Morphin' Ranger cameos at least, although I still think there is legitimate beef between JDF & Austin St. John currently on going.

Awaits the haters here of CBM to enter this thread!

I really hope they get the best of the best in CGI efforts & go all out & spend to get the Megazord & possibly for the 2nd or 3rd movie, Dragonzord & Titanus all looking epically awesome, like Pacific Rim awesome.

Also, give me V.R. Troopers, Beetleborgs & Masked Rider movies next..... Yeah, I said it! They may have been poor people's Power Rangers & somewhat "sucked", but a modern reboot of those could look good today & kick off a new fan base. It also depends on modern casting, writing & dialogue too & bringing things up to date.

Annnnnd, to go back just a little further, I'd like a modern take on Captain Power & The Soldiers of The Future, show or movie.

@yonny616 LOLOLOL!!!!! I thought that was the legit clip, you got me! Amused.

As for what they do with the Green / White Ranger in these movies, depending on how the first one takes off, how much money it makes & how many further sequels we get (IF any) depending on sustainability, I'd introduce Tommy maybes near the end of the first movie or in movie 2, this is planned as a trilogy, so I'd say have him as the Green Ranger for 2 & 3 & then if we can get beyond a third then turn him White for future instalments.

...I still don't understand why they rebooted this one. Why not create a whole new story and characters?...Anyway, Dino Thunder or GTFO...

I can NOT wait for this film. I used to collect Megazords all the way up to the 6th grade. 😂

If Hot Toys does a Megazords for the new film I'm going to be all in.

I was looking forward to this, but the movie is now coming out in January. The graveyard of movies the studios have no faith in. We're doomed.

@BlackStar25 Because Mighty Morphin is the one the general audience really remembers, only the hardcore fans know of Dino Thunder, S.P.D., RPM, Lightspeed Rescue ect.

@TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan I honestly think they should do the Green Ranger in the first one and have him lose his powers once the bond to Rita, if they do Rita, is broken.

As chessy as the show is, I don't think it's actually possible to mess up a new power rangers movie. As long as the special effects are decent, it's gonna turn out fine.

@BlackStar25: The trilogy of Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder and SPD was the best Power Rangers had been since the days of In Space, Lost Galaxy and Time Force.

Here's hoping a new trilogy of seasons happens soon.

Power Rangers was a product of it's time.

Those expecting something super great will probably be disappointed, and it will probably be similar to last years Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which my son enjoyed and I thought it was okay.

At least give Jason David Frank a cameo.

I know that this isn't any form of confirmation but this guy is claiming to have been cast as the Blue Ranger. He is a relative unknown.

@TheTrainset I keep landing on some profile of a guy named Jeff Allen. I don't see where it says he claimed to be cast of the blue ranger, and even so he looks way too old.

@BlackStar25 Mighty Morphin' is classic. It's where it all began and where PR standard was established. But anyway, Nothing ever really came close to being as good as In Space.

@GetsugaTensho22 Light Speed Rescue actually came after Lost Galaxy and before Time Force.

I've been watching the new Dino Charge series. It's awful. Plotholes with no explanation. Zords that come out of nowhere (the summoning method is terrible also in my opinion) and after 10 episodes, the rangers have very little development, only one has any real story, and I hardly understand what really drives them. Sure there are bits and pieces, but after 10 episodes I should have more than that. What's weird is I mostly keep watching because the villains are interesting. To the point where so little has been done to make me care about the rangers, I would rather have the entire series mainly from the perspective of the villains.

Sledge seems bullying but is actually cunning and even tempered. His main general, Fury, has some sort of secret and although appearing tough, can't seem to get a break, failing all over the place and not being able to collect a single Energem in 10 million years. Something that Sledge's fiance, Poisandra is quick to point out. Poisandra is the other "General" though her interests do not lie in defeating the Power Rangers directly like the others. Her motives are clear. She wants her wedding to Sledge. ASAP. But her hubby has made it clear there will be no matrimonies until he wipes out the Power Rangers and acquires all the Energems/zords. Poisandra moves to becoming more focused on defeating the rangers only because they are getting in the way of her personal life and future plans. I also love that while she appears air-headed and frivolous as her outfit, she has proven a wit and cunning in her own way, managing to trump her rival, Fury, several times despite her inexperience much to his frustration. Fury has a loyalty to Sledge, and competes for his approval and affection with Poisandra, who almost always has his ear. He doesn't trust Poisandra, noting her perky facade and wicked scheming and clearly doesn't approve of her relationship to Sledge.

Sledge, btw, is a cosmic bounty hunter, collecting rarities and wanted aliens for money and believes the Energems will be his crowning power, setting him up for the rest of his and Poisandra's lives. He is constantly offering his prisoners freedom if they can bring him back even just one Energem. And is consciously tracking the costs of the bounties he keeps losing against the boon the Energems will bring. His own cunning is shown in his first scrap with the Rangers in which he fakes old age fatigue and pretends defeat in order for one of his monsters to secretly follow the Rangers directly back to their secret base.

See, I know and understand more about the villains than I do with the Rangers in the first 10 episodes.
Red Ranger: not leader material yet. distracted by the mystery of his missing father(only Ranger with a real story).
Pink Ranger: Insists she knows more than every about dinos, wants to be taken seriously, small crush on Red.
Blue: A caveman thawed from ice(oh yeah, Power Rangers=immortality now), misses his little brother.
Black: Distracted. Possibly ADHD. Can only focus while on Skateboard. Womanizer.
Green: Farm boy analytical "genius" works out intensely, only one who is ever seen actually training-except for the ending of one episode.

I think it is safe to say the costumes will have to be revamped to get rid of the clown appeal. Hope they keep them true though.
