So Was That 'The Joker' In Next Week's GOTHAM Promo? Bruno Heller Weighs In

At the very end of the promo for "The Blind Fortune Teller", we got a glimpse of actor Cameron Monaghan as a fairly disturbed looking young man with a very distinctive laugh. Fox was definitely teasing him as The Joker, but was he? Find out what showrunner Bruno Heller has to say about it...

We knew The Joker was going to show up on Gotham at some point, but we thought next week's episode was all about Robin's acrobat parents... until we saw that promo at the end of "The Scarecrow" this past Monday. Was that pale kid laughing hysterically while being interrogated by Jim Gordon really the future Clown Prince of Crime? Well, according to Bruno Heller, "not necessarily". The showrunner promises that "it's not a bait-and-switch or red herring" however, adding: "That character is the true beginning of the Joker saga — the first page of the first chapter of the story that brings the villain known as Joker to life." Interesting. If he doesn't turn out to be The Joker, it's possible this Jerome fella was simply hit with a dose of his trademark laughing gas, heralding the villain's arrival in Gotham further down the line.

In a separate interview with THR, Heller talks about the iconic nemesis of Batman, and hints that we may not actually see him in all his glory until Bruce dons the cape and cowl. "In the pantheon of villains, he's the dark king of this world, so it would be cheating the audience if we didn't get into that," he explains to the site. "On the other hand, as those who are deep into the mythology know, the actual Joker - the full-on villain himself - does not appear until after Batman appears. That's both a narrative opportunity and a narrative problem at the same time." Do you think Jerome will wind up being Joker? If not, how is he tied to the character's eventual debut? Sound off with your ideas below.

I love the Joker...only he can pre-plan exactly at what time Batman will interrogate him, kick his ass and then tell him about the 2 bombs...and only he can stand in the middle of a police station and blow it up...and be the only one left alive and only the Joker can beat down and pin someone who is supposed to be a ninja trained bad ass only to be foiled by his own hubris.
:)
just teasing

@JRM1995 You realise that almost every one of that movies were not made by "Marvel Studios"? That movies were made by another people, like FOX or Sony?

Marvel only have done two really bad films about Hulk and anymore. For me the big fail or mistake of Marvel was to sell the main characters rights to studios like Fox or Sony, but at less this movies were the first step of this world of movies so every one of you have to thank Marvel for selling X-Men and Spiderman rights....

Hey Clown, or AleSir19, do you understand it DOES NOT MATTER? DC is not in charge, WB is, so we have some different circumstances here...if you want to comment, do so with some type of education, but until then, please refrain.

@JRM1995

Just an FYI, when people say Marvel on CBM.com, they mean Marvel Studios/Disney....

Not, Fox and Sony....

Which excludes every film you listed except for the Incredible Hulk film with Edward Norton. Which was awesome.

you sound dumb as fvck.
none of those films are MCU except for Incredible Hulk and that does not suck on any planet.

Besides Penguin this show has lost me. Selina witnessing the Wayne's death, and other liberties that have been taken have ruined this for me.

@DrKinsolving Sadly there's too many... sheep in here who consider any Marvel licensed movie as being a "Marvel" film. MCU = a movie PRODUCED by Marvel / Disney, and as such, deserving of the title 'Marvel film'. FOX, SONY and co. have done a horrible job trying to keep up... outside of the last two (and expected 3) X-Men movies.

It's changing, a few years ago there were many, but thankfully there's only a few now. It warms my heart just saying that.

If you don't control the product, please don't group it with the product that is. Now if anyone wants to rip into the TRUE Marvel released films like Thor 2 and GOTG then count me in ;-)

@xcan

I hear you, I was just trying to add some sense....

And, Fox has gotten better.... I was actually wondering, will Sony now be categorized as Marvel/Sony, w/ Spidey in the MCU.... It would be so much easier if all the rights were back home, haha

@DrKinsolving You're a Dr.! You know that there's nothing like "common sense" on this site! ;-)

But yeah, the Spider-Man thing does dirty the waters a bit. I'd still call it if he's in a SONY produced film then it ain't MCU. I still expect Disney to buy it out completely within the next 5 years, but until then, I guess there'll be a difference.
JRM1995
JRM1995 - 2/14/2015, 7:50 AM
LOL, no generalization, just reality. You don't get to choose only the MCU films, DC doesn't have that luxury, so hence, ALL Marvel related films count, regardless of the studio that releases them.

"On the other hand, as those who are deep into the mythology know, the actual Joker - the full-on villain himself - does not appear until after Batman appears."

I don't know from the comics, but I figured most of these villains didn't come around until Batman. Am I wrong about that?

DrKinsolving - 2/14/2015, 8:18 AM
@JRM1995

"DC doesn't have that luxury"

DC/WB owns all of their characters, that is a luxury compared to Marvel, hahaha

@xcan

Haha, I should have known better. True, I'm hoping Disney buys out Sony too, that would be the best scenario, and it sounds like Marvel might be involved in Spidey's solo movies too, still need to hear more about the deal
