THE MANDALORIAN: Taika Waititi Reveals Whether He's Directed Any Season 2 Episodes Of The Disney+ Series

The Mandalorian exceeded everyone's expectations when it debuted on Disney+ last November, and there's understandably a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming second season.

Details are scarce about the next batch of episodes, but we know that Ashoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) is going to make an appearance as the Bounty Hunter continues to travel through the Galaxy with Grand Moff Tarkin hot on his heels, and The Child under his protection.

However, after he helmed the memorable season one finale, we can now confirm that Taika Waititi won't be back to direct any episodes of The Mandalorian. He made that official during his like Thor: Ragnarok commentary last night, and it all seemingly boils down to scheduling issues.

"I’m not directing any of the episodes of The Mandalorian because I was doing another film, a soccer film with Michael Fassbender," he confirmed. "After Jojo Rabbit I decided to make a sports film, something I’ve never done, about a sport I knew nothing about and I still don’t."

He's kidding about that last part (we think), but it sadly does seem as if we won't get to see him return to this Galaxy Far, Far Away. On the plus side, he is supposed to be working on a Star Wars movie of some sort, so we'll have to hope that becomes a reality after Thor: Love and Thunder

Confirmed directors for season two of The Mandalorian include Jon Favreau, Carl Weathers, Dave Filoni, and possibly Robert Rodriguez if recent reports are to be believed.

Did it exceed everyone’s expectations? The reviews I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot, are pretty mixed. Haven’t seen it yet as I live in the UK but another statement from Josh describing his opinion as fact!

Carl Weathers is going to direct an episode? Interesting. Guess that means he won't necessarily reprise his role from S1 then.

Maybe for a 3rd Season Taika can return.
