Wonder Woman's Origin - Is It Important?

this isnt superman, we want an origin story, if not we end up with a movie where we have a character no one cares about like daredevil

Well, that's just it. Wonder Woman's origins have changed dramatically. Is she born from clay? A demigoddess daughter of Zeus? A normal Amazon sent as an emissary to the world of men?

Of all the well known superheros - Wonder Woman is the least defined. Her costume changing spin is probably the most recognizable power to the majority of the audience - especially little girls in the 70s twirling until they were dizzy.

Besides her origins are less important because she basically spends thousands of years between origin (birth) and entering the world of men.

Yes it is, the only person who doesnt need an origin story is Batman. Flash, Wonderwoman Aquaman etc need origin stories arguabley Martian Manhunter does not, you can explain his story within a film like JL even mend it to be in sync with the JL villain, for instance white martians or even Darkseid/Brainiac killing all the inhabitants of his planet. The tricky one is Green Lantern I am on the fence about that.

But Wonderwomans origins need to be explored will open up a fantastical/mythological route in the DC Universe we have Alien/Sci-Fi in Man of Steel and arguably a Science view point in a Flash film and a Detective/Mystery in the Batman reboot. But the Gods would be interesting especially Ares if done right, and you need a mythological/magical viewpoint especially if JLA Dark connects with Zatanna and Constantine even Dr Fate.

So Yes it is important

Not having a Wonder Woman origin is one of the most ridiculous things that Warner Brothers can do. It would basically paint them as sexist given that they can come up with origin stories for their main male characters but not Wonder Woman. Coming up with a story is not that hard. It needs to be updated but it can be done in a way respectful of her history...like this!


A WONDER WOMAN STORY THAT WOULD WORK IN A REAL WORLD SETTING

The way I would do it is to have Hippolyta be a scientist and traveler from a distant world. In fact I would make it so that not only did she know Jor-El but she is the one who invented the technology to bend space and time that he uses to send Superman to earth in Man of Steel. Hippolyta would create a portal that her alien race would use to come to earth and they would all be worshiped as God's (the ones from Greek mythology). Hippolyta would object to her portal being used to interfere with the development of earth and she would destroy the portal and choose to live among humans (this would explain the disappearance of the God's and why people stopped worshipping them). She live among humans (in the third century) would fall in love with a human and have Diana. One day while Hippolyta would be briefly away, Thracian barbarians (who in the real world were worshippers of the god Aries) would come and destroy the village that she lived in. They would kill all the men including her husband intending to enslave the women and girls. Hippolyta would return while they were still under attack and using her "other" worldly powers would save the female members of the community. Recognizing that she would be constantly in danger because women were seen as almost property in every society during that time, she would lead the women and girls to a remote island and using "clay" from her home world she would mix it with the island soil and grow food native to her home planet. The resulting food the women ate would cause them to become stronger and faster than normal people and Diana, because of her half alien DNA would be the strongest and fastest of them all as well as developing other unique abilities such as flight etc...

ALSO...the Amazons would keep a small group of men on an islet (small island) just off the coast of their island. They would "find" these men when they were near death at some point in their life (on a battle field or ill for example) and offer them a chance at life if they agreed to serve the Amazons for procreation or other reasons. If the men agreed they would have almost eternal life and health (by eating certain alien foods)but they could not leave the islet where they lived or they would be killed.

THERE YOU HAVE IT!

A story that addresses Wonder Woman's "deity" roots; alludes (in a symbolic way) to Aries and of her (powers) being from clay; how and why the Amazons separated themselves from men and how they interact with men in a ethical way (the men make the CHOICE to serve the Amazons); and it also explains why Diana would be super powered and different even from the other Amazons.

If they want to put steve trevor in it, have him sent to themyscira, not her meeting him in the real world

So...

It's not NEEDED, but I'd say there's definitely an explanation needed as to where the hell she comes from.

I don't know if Hawkman will ever get a film though which is sad as its an interesting character hell be one of those more secondary characters in my opinion, even though I would love for him to have his own film . Defiantly want a joke about the flash gordan hawkmen

All I know is Kara was on that ship thousands of years ago, survived, and no one is clamoring for a Supergirl movie - or even cameo.

I also know that most of Wonder Woman's powers could be explained by her being Kryptonian, a grounded approach to the character and Goyer, Nolan, and WB love to... well I just wouldn't put it past them.

I will agree that WW's origins need to be locked down in film - once its one celluloid its the one the public will know for the next 20 years at least. As far at 99% of the public is concerned, Linda Carter's WW is the definitive version.

I just don't trust anyone at WB to do it right... at all. That's why I'd rather skip ahead to modern times and allude to her origins rather than set them in stone in a horrible way.

So you think Superman is realistic? I´ve already figured out away for Diana to fit in this world easily, with Olympians, Lasso, invisible jet and all, and I´m not even a Hollywood writer and I´m doing a better job.
