NO TIME TO DIE Producer Barbara Broccoli Reveals When The Hunt For The Next James Bond Will Begin

No Time to Die producer Barbara Broccoli has revealed when the hunt for Daniel Craig's replacement will begin, while the actor himself has also weighed in on what could come next for the storied franchise.

After a series of costly delays, No Time to Die will finally start rolling out in theaters over the next few weeks. It's been confirmed on multiple occasions that Daniel Craig is moving on from the role of James Bond, but we've seen nothing more than speculation about who could be the next 007.

It won't be a woman (that's a sentiment several people working on the storied franchise have made clear), and many one-time fan-favourites are arguably too old to take over from Craig at this stage.

Talking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme (via Deadline), longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli joked that she's "in denial" about Craig's departure from the series. "We want Daniel to have his time of celebration," she continued. "Next year we’ll start thinking about the future."

So, we're unlikely to hear anything about the next 007 until 2022, though EON producer Michael G. Wilson did add that whoever takes over is going to have some "big shoes to fill."

In a separate interview with Variety, Craig was asked for his thoughts on who could follow him. However, he wasn't willing to commit to naming any possible replacements and was quick to issue what boils down to a "no comment" answer. "Don’t ask that! You know what, it’s not my problem."

There are a lot of different directions the James Bond franchise can go from here, and there's a real demand among fans to see a diverse lead follow Craig's lengthy stint as the iconic Ian Fleming creation. We'll see what happens, but it's clear for now that the focus is staying on No Time to Die's release.

Who would you like to see play the next big screen 007?

@FinnishDude - He'd be 43 by the time his first film is out. Gotta think about longevity in the role.

Excited to find out who is next?

My personal choices:

1) Henry Cavill (The obvious one and makes most sense)

2) Ben Barnes ( Looked suave in Punisher and doesn't have a major franchise behind him)

3) Sam Heughan ( A bit lesser known)

@SimplyAz - I do think Cavill has the better look, to me, for it.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - I think he could work, but you really chose a photo of him with too smug of a face for me to take seriously.

@bkmeijer - he would bring a physicality to the role we’ve yet to see. A different kind of Bond for sure. He’s half British so you can play with that too

Not to mention he has such a cool demeanor.

I could see Pierce Brosnan returning to the franchise. He can be a minor character. He may be a retired 007 turned instructor at MI6.

@Repian - even in his 60's he still looks dope. and hot.

@Repian - They should just do a one off with him back as Bond. This is what Bond should look like as he got older. Give it to Quentin tarintino

The one thing I don't believe is that they haven't already been thinking of a replacement. That thought process began when it was clear that Daniel Craig was making his last Bond movie. They won't announce it for a while, but I'm sure they already have their favorites to replace Craig targeted.

Wouldn't mind it if they just move on with Lashana Lynch as 007. Every James Bond story has been told by now, so the franchise could also take a break from the character while still continuing this universe.

But if they're going for a new actor, I prefer someone who isn't so well-known.

@bkmeijer - if you want a female bond, go watch Atomic Blonde lol they need better action roles for women instead of making a male character female 🤷‍♂️
