SPIDER-MAN Spinoff JACKPOT Has Been In The Works At Sony Pictures For At Least Two Years

Spider-Man spinoff Jackpot found a writer in Arrowverse producer Marc Guggenheim this week, but the latest chapter in Sony Pictures's Universe of Marvel Characters has been in the works for a long time!

For an interesting insight into how news in Hollywood breaks, look no further than this. Back in 2018, when Silver & Black became individual Silver Sable and Black Cat movies, there was mention of a Jackpot film also being in development. No one took much notice of that, until it was announced this week that Arrowverse boss Marc Guggenheim is writing the screenplay.

According to him, however, Sony Pictures may have never stopped working on the project.

"It's a little deceptive, I've been working on Jackpot for two years now," Guggenheim says of the recent news that he's attached to pen the script. With that in mind, it seems likely that it's already finished, and the reason that news broke is because it's nearing the pre-production stages.

Very little is known about the creative direction Jackpot will head in, and whether it will feature Sara Ehret, Alana Jobson, or both. Whatever the answer may be, it should wind up quite lighter in tone that the likes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius. The same could be said for Madame Web, so it's hard to figure out what direction the SPUMC is heading in.

That stands for Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, for those of you wondering.

And in those two years, I’m sure they’ve had plenty of time to come up with some great ideas, right?

How many years of our lives and how much money are fans going to keep wasting on Sony’s hot garbage movies?

If Disney can buy Fox, and HBOMax can release the Snyder Cut, then Disney can buy Sony too.

Nothing is impossible

I don't understand why the effort.

Sony Jackpot isn't a major Marvel character. She isn't a major Spider-man character. She barely qualifies as a minor character. She's not bad but she's not relevant.

There is no fanbase to tap into. The general audience doesn't know who this character is at all. You could make an original character you own lock, stock, and barrel. It's just so odd that Sony is trying to make some universe out of the discarded scraps.

Then again folks complain about what Sony is doing but at the end of the day, all there has only been is Spider-man, Venom, and Morbius. They seem to be more focuses then it appears.

@storyteller - could you explain jackpot I have no idea who tf she is

@ShimmyShimmyYA - She was a character introduced into the narrative after One More Day to try to lead readers into believing that the thing Mary Jane whispered into Mephisto's ear was for her to be a hero. No one really fell for it, and she's shown up maybe once or twice more.

There are two of 'em. One, a single mom, the other a drug slash adrenaline addict. Seeing as there's nothing really there you could theoretically make a movie from the ground up.

Sony........

Listen, we understand you want to drink from the river of cash flowing in from the sea of potential Marvel films. But you just aren't that good. Stick to animated films. That's your lane. And it has a ton of potential. Focus your filmmaking resources on that.
